Hey all, had a couple of questions on this game, for tghose who might be playing it or buying it. First, is it like AT-43, one of those miniatures/boardgame hybrids? Second, are the miniatures 28mm in scale, I heard they were larger? The miniatures look cool, might be good for some pulp WWII games. Not a big fan of the At-43 concept of a miniatures game on a small board, I think thats in part where rackham went wrong with that game. |

Nice figures, weak rules. Miniature/boardgame hybrid, not sure what you mean, if you mean like space hulk (or talisman), where you need the board, no. Distances/range could easily be converted. Scale, large 28mm, more like 32mm, like redoubt figures. |

It looms like they're coming out with Dust:warfare which appears to be a set of tabletop miniatures rules. What I mean by hybrid is AT-43 was designed to be played on a 2x2 board, and didn't translate well to a 4x4+ sized table. Aesthetically it felt even more awkward to be using high tech weapons limited to only a few inches of range. |

Okay, I have ALL the Dust Tactics figures and vehicles they released so far. They are 28mm, no larger than GW Citadel figures, pre-primed but not pre-painted like AT43. Which is fine by me because I prefer to paint them myself anyway. The board game has been criticized by many but isn't as bad as they say. A second edition just came out which addressed some of the issues from the first. The box sets are a great value because even if you don't play the rules the figures pay for themselves and you can use it in any Weird World War II game. Dust Warfare (developed by former 40K designer Andy Chambers) initially was slated for late last year but has been pushed back til March or Aprill 2012. I have a feeling they're holding off to time it with the release of their new Russians. Yes, Russians. I can't wait! |

Second everything WW2Fanatik said. The board game is too simplistic for some, but I like it just fine. The miniatures are fantastic, and I'd collect them even if the game stunk. I am really looking forward to the Dust : Warfare rules, though. Brent

Love the minis, hate the game. At first I just thought that it wasn't what I was looking for and maybe a bad match with the miniatures (which are so beautiful) but I really think that the game is too simple. I don't mind simple rules as long as they're also clever, but I didn't see any of that. It's a pretty abstract, grid-based battle game with little real personality that I could see. Certainly not what I'm looking for in a miniatures game
and not even what I'm looking for in a board game. I think what I was hoping for was something more along the lines of 1/48 Combat. Take a look at that game for something that manages to be both simple AND clever – and much more of a miniatures game. Anyway, I was really frustrated by the game. I was almost excited when the miniatures rules were FINALLY going to be released but from what I've read it won't really won't change the rules on any kind of fundamental level so I won't be picking it up. |

WW2fanatik--Does the AT43 stuff scale well with the Dust Tactics figs? |

I don't play the game but am very tempted to pick up the miniatures especially in light of the kick butt tanks they have coming out: link |

If you were playing AT43 on a 2x2 game board, you were doing it wrong. Yes, the game came with a poster-map thingy, which was simply designed to look cool under your minis, and led you play some start-up scenarios and get used to the rules. But after that
you could go with any size. And they had lots of different cardstock terrain tiles to use if you wanted, and you were not limited to just 4 tiles either. |

seattlegamer – the rules need a lot of work to be played on anything beyond the board it was originally intended to be played on. Too bad really, there were some nice rules in that mess and the miniatures were fantastic. What kind of plastic are the dust minis made of? |

Here's a site with nice comparison pics of DT minis next to AT43, 40K, etc. link The plastic is the same as that used in AT-43 miniatures. |

the (AT-43) rules need a lot of work to be played on anything beyond the board it was originally intended to be played on. IIRC, the forces were written with the strong scenario-driven Operations in mind, and proved to be very differently balanced for open field 40k-style play. |

Ya know, that German walker would look real fetching with the logo "F.F.I." and a big white Cross of Lorraine painted on it

Yeah, I'm trying to figure out the AT-43 comment as well. Regularly play on 6x4 with no problem. On a 2x2 board most weapon ranges meant you'd hit on 2+ or auto-hit. One thing AT-43 does well _is_ the ranges, because that meant normal rifles could actually hit from a much further distance than most other 28mm games

I also dont understand the AT-43 comment. I have never had any problems with ranges and have played several games on pingpong tables (very large). They are great rules. |
