New on the portfolio page, some shots of the big FS:A sculpts from Spartan Games: link With the battleship coming in over 6" long, they're definitely more in scale with Battlefleet Gothic or Galactic Knights stuff than most of GZG, Brigade, or Studio Bergstrom's sculpts, but still quite nice. The castings were very clean and went together well, a definite improvement over the assembly nightmares of some of the first-wave FS:A figs. These were inspired the Showcase article here: TMP link |

Those are really nice- I went for this over-complicated alternating panel scheme, and I have the feeling I'm doing twice as much work to look half as good

Thanks, all. I was pretty happy with the way they came out – a fairly speedy paint scheme to execute, but the end result is pretty striking, especially on those big hulls. Most of my starships in 2011 were more fleet scale or smallish GZG scale stuff, so these were a pleasant change of pace. Have to try my hand at some Galactic Knights figs one of these days. I sort of did that myself with some Sorylians way back when – patchwork hull colors to represent repaired damage. Looked good, but definitely more time-consuming than appropriate for a whole fleet. Spartan certainly does give you plenty of nice, deep panel lines to work with for that sort of thing – and it also makes ink washes work well. |
