Though we are only 1 month into season 4 of our League (Eastern Front), I'm already thinking about season 5,which will begin in May. We return to the Mediterranean, specifically the invasion of Sicily. I want to do a Ranger Battalion army and have begun to research the miniatures I will need.

Battlefront has the one blister of Ranger specific models which includes the Darby spec. character. I bought a box of the Devil's Brigade models last night which I think will make great Rangers.

My question is what would you guys suggest I use. I have to do a minimum of 3x 2-platoon companies (6 platoons total) for my core, or combat choices. I thought I'd get a box of MW US Rifle Company and the afore-mentioned Ranger blister to finish them out. Any other suggestions? A local store is clearancing out their FoW stock and has a LW infantry box set on sale. I forget the Division, but they are the ones made for D Day.

Anyway, I'm open to suggestions of what else to use, why to use them or why NOT to use some of the figures I've already mentioned. Also, if another company has something you'd recommend that would be cool too.

Thanks!

The D-Day troops have the invasion vests, Bangalore torpedoes, etc. I think they are a little too specialized.
I do my invasions with the normal generic BF infantry.
I will admit that I only use BF infantry because I got a fine deal on Armored Infantry in a trade.
OItherwise, being a proud Old Glory Army Card holder, I would have gone with the OG Command Decision Yanks. They are decent figures, and cheap.
You may end up with more figures than you need, but paint them all up anyway. You will probably want to tinker with your composition.

Thanks for the info on the invasion troops. Exactly what I was looking for.

I've got to say, the prospect of planning and starting a new army is always so exciting!

That's an interesting approach blue.

How well do you think they might also work for US Army Divisions in the PTO?

Cool. I'd like to find some really ragged looking US Army figures for the PTO in 1944/45. Except for helmet covers, I'm not sure how different they might be from the Eureka Marines.
