However, the majority of the collection is Foundry with one unit that is Vendel. I understand that Vendel was was picked up by someone here in the States so I would like to be able to find out who now carries the line. The other issue is that going with Foundry has become too expensive although I do think they have some of the best Ancient Greeks in this miniature size. I have looked at the plastic Immortal miniatures and think this may be a good way to go for more Hoplites but what about Peltasts,Cavalry, and other skirmishing troops. Who else makes 28 mm Greeks that you think are good figures and would match well with Foundry and Vendel?

SMPress03 Feb 2012 9:18 a.m. PST

Kim? I think this is your handle, but if not, please accept my appologies!

I have not seen the plastics in person, so cant speak to them.

As to the Vendel range, I can speak to that, I have them now, and they are here in the States. My web site is sgmm.biz and this link goes straight to the Greek line: sgmm.biz/greeks.html

Thanks!
Andy

Warlord Games just released some new Greek psiloi

and slingers

Well, if you aren't adverse to multi-part plastics, now is the time – as tasforce58 noted about Warlord. The price and possible variations of plastics should outweigh most reservations over metals. And don't forget their soon-to-be released phalangites.

As for your concern with size – the main issue I have with mixing different Hoplites is their shield size. The bodies themselves don't trouble me – I like a mix in stature. Good Hunting, Dean

I've seen shots of the new Victrix Greeks over on the LAF and I think I'm in love.

Good catch there A Twiningham; I knew there was at least one more maker of plastic Greeks. There's been so many recent releases (over the last year or so), coupled with merging/changing companies, I keep forgetting which is which or who is who. Yes, them Victrix look very nice indeed! Dean

Actually the WarlordGames slingers and psiloi are metal.

Andy! Yes I thought it might have been you that had picked up the Vendel line. (whitemanticore aka Kim Allman) Are you going to be at Historicon with the line? Regardless, I will be dropping you a line and making some orders.

@ A Twiningham, I too have been waiting on the Victrix plastics but as of yet they have not been released.

@ DeanMoto yea the shield size thing is a bit of a problem but one I am resigned to deal with. Although I do like the look of the Immortal Plastics and do not mind assembling plastics.

Currently I am trying to have enough Ancient Greeks so that I can run games set during the Peloponnese War. My Spartans and Allies are pretty much done so now I need to focus on the Athenians and forces for Syracuse.

I know Wargames Factory get a bad press but I haven't heard a bad word about their plastic Numidians. They're really just generic ancient light infantry with options for javelins, bows, slings and swords.

If you want some 28mm metal miniatures that fit in with Foundry and Sgt Mess, then check ours, scarabminiatures.com
Click on Ancient and Medieval, on the left hand side

Newly released today- Spartans in armour (2 packs)

We have 4 packs of Spartan hoplites in total, plus 4 packs of more 'generic' Greek hoplites. We have two psiloi packs (bow and javelin) plus a command pack. We have cavalry, more light troops and some more hoplite variants and characters to follow.

Our shields are comparable with the Immortal ones size wise.

For those with a copy of War & Conquest, you can view them in full colour rather than my webstore efforts (I have to retake the lot)

In the War & Conquest section of the website forum you can find plenty of pictures of the Greek game we have been taking to shows and conventions. There you can view the different companies models (and a size comparison in another topic) battling it out side by side.

kind regards

I think Scarab Miniatures would blend in best with your existing figures.

Are the Victrix hoplites 28mm? I ask because they look more like 54mm.

idontbelieveit03 Feb 2012 5:19 p.m. PST

The Victrix figures look like great sculpts. I hope they aren't packaged so you have to buy figs with the overhand pose though.

"Are you going to be at Historicon with the line?"

Absolutely, I will be there…

galvinm03 Feb 2012 7:23 p.m. PST

Wow. Lots more Greeks for me to add to my Foundry army.

andyfb03 Feb 2012 10:45 p.m. PST

SMPress….Was looking at your Macedonians earlier today (have got Clash of Empires/Rise and fall of Persia/Hail Caesar army lists all on the way to me as I type)
Have been a 15mm gamer for years but am now moving up in scale.

Was looking for some idea of which figures go together and lo and behold this thread starts!!! Coincidence???

Anyway I was wondering what your postage rates are to Oz? Couldn't see any details on your site (or maybe I just missed it ha ha)

Cheers Andy :-)

@ashill4

The Victrix Greeks to be launched this spring / summer are 28mm.
With the Napoleonics, Victrix make a few sets in 54mm as well as 28mm. Victrix sculpt to a very level so that they can make moulds for both sizes.

Hey Andy, I normally charge actual shipping rates overseas. If the order is large enough, i will cover the shipping for you. No hard and fast policy on what constitutes a large order though. E-mail me, and I will do what I can to make you happy…

Basic shipping rates should show at the top of each range page, but it looks like it is only currently on some of them, my appologies:

International shipping:

Up to $125.00 USD in Merchandise ships for $16.95 USD

125.01 and over in Merchandise ships for $47.95 USD

ashill404 Feb 2012 10:29 a.m. PST

Mick, thanks for that.

kallman04 Feb 2012 9:41 p.m. PST

@ andyfb I think you will be happy with the Vendel Greeks and Macedonians. The Vendel units I have match well with my Foundry figures. They are a little more robust but they are a joy to paint and the poses are well done. Plus Andy and the gang are just a bunch of great guys.

Thanks for the info guys.

I'll wait till I get the army lists and see what I need to buy and then get back to you.

Cheers Andy
