Does anyone have any info on the uniform of the Spanish Hussars of Grenada in 1808? As they weren't one of the old line regiments, I'm not sure what their uniform was or if they even had a real uniform. |

I've mostly struck out on this one. The Granada Hussars are listed in Emile Arredondo's Los Húsares Españoles en la Guerra de Independencia 1800-1814, but their uniform is not described. He states that they were created in 1809, comprised three squadrons with a tool roster of 720 men, and merged into the Numancia Dragoons regiment in 1815. Their commander was [Luís González Torres de Aguilar,] marqués de Campoverde René Chatrand's Spanish Army of the Napoleonic Wars (2) 1808-1812 states that they were created in June 1808 with a cadre from the Cazadores de Olivenza. Oman, in one of his appendices (Vol. 1, App. XI), lists them as a newly raised unit of 670 men in his listing of the Army of Granada in Oct.-Nov. 1808. I've googled the commander. Apparently he was an interesting fellow, but I didn't find any images of him in hussar uniform. Good luck with further research. Rick |
