The Lance & Longbow Society has plans to release the first 50 issues of their journal, the Hobilar, as pdfs on CD.

This will raise a few quid for the Society and make it easier for people to access the wealth of articles and full colour flags that have been published in Hobilar over the years.

The indexing has been done and we have 19 of 50 pdfs ready so the CD should be available to both members and non-members sometime in the summer; if all goes well.

In the meantime here's a sample from the pdf of issue #1 to tempt you.

I'd also be interested in any feedback as to the quality of the scans and readability etc.

Excellent.

Based upon just the few article titles I saw in the first few issues, I will definitely be wanting them.

Hopefully, I'll be able to afford them at some point.

Will there be a price difference for members and non-members ?

When the SoA did something similar at the turn of the century the CDs were only available to members – well worth joining just to be able to buy 30years of back issues for very little money (think it worked out ~20p an issue including the price of a subscription!).

Will there be a price difference for members and non-members?

Yes. The members will get a discount.

The final price hasn't been fixed yet but the non-member price looks to be about £12.00 GBP plus P&P.

Since my original post I've had feedback elsewhere that the pdfs are clear and readable on a Kindle: which is good news.

Once we get to the 40 issue mark then I will put up a web page for non-member pre-orders.

£12.00 GBP is a bargain – you've probably thought it all through already but to my mind a years membership plus buying the CD archive should be less than a non-member just buying the archive. Sadly you probably only get one bite at this cherry, so maybe you should try and maximise recruitment – some will stay with you I'm sure.

Just a thought – and I'm sure you've already had this discussion.

That's fantastic to hear! I will be rejoining the society in the near future.

vexillia29 Feb 2012 8:43 a.m. PST

40 issues complete.

As promised there's now a form online allowing you to pre-order your copy. No payment is required at this stage; it's just an expression of interest.

Let me know here if there are any problems.
