First it was smallpox-infected blankets.

Now another dastardly plot emerges--

Spam is also very popular in the Philippines. I'm sure this is a result of U.S. military bases during and after the commonwealth era. My wife likes fried Spam, but she has cut way back to avoid killing me.

I'd want to read a more scientific analysis of the report to be sure that processed meats are, indeed, causal, and if so, by what specific nutritional components of the spam.

As for the warning, it's worth listening to, but remember the warnings in the 1970s/80s about how bad eggs were… and now those concerns have been alleviated by new research.

I think the main thing to do is to have a varied, healthy diet.

I have to admit I have fond memories of fried Spam from when I was a kid

Yes – we were that poor

Striker01 Feb 2012 2:54 p.m. PST

I like spam.

Who is making them eat Spam?

I doubt the spam is causal, except in the sense that people who tend to eat too much spam get obese, and obese people tend to get diabetes.

Here come the next rounds of protests and compensation cheques.

How does this rate with Hawaiians? Spam (the real one) is the state dish.

DJCoaltrain01 Feb 2012 9:05 p.m. PST

I ate Spam as a kid. At home and at school. The real stuff, not some mystery meat from a compost pile booby-trap.

Like so many other citizens of Hawaii, I'm doing my part to save the Native Americans by eating as much Spam as I can.

I like Spam and eggs. Not much different than scrapple, really.

Why target Spam? I would blame a cumulative effect of all processed foods.Just beware if you have alot of ants around the base of your toilet….

Give a researcher a million bucks and he will tell you that X is bad for you. Then give a different researcher a million bucks and he will tell you X is good for you. Give me a million bucks and I will say thank you and buy miniatures!
