Okay, decided to do some of the Monty's Epsom scenarios in 28mm and was wondering if anyone knew of a source for SdKfz. 233 and 232/1 armored cars.

I'll be using Bolt Action for most of the project with a few JFM to fill gaps, so ideally I'd like 1:56. Any ideas?

Bandai made a 1/48 SdKfz 232. It's OOP, but the 1/48 Bandai kits show up quite often on eBay and most go for pretty reasonable prices.

I see Italieri makes one now too.

Just use the Warlord 231 with a big aerial stuck on it for the 232!

No idea on the 233 though.

JTFM is planning to release a 233: link

Hobby Armor Depot makes a Stummel too:

Thanks for all the responses. Any idea on how to model the aerial? Lots of experience painting, less with modeling.

Will look forward to the JTFM 233.

The antenae for the 232 looks like a giant bed frame suspended over the turret. Options for scratchbuilding one would involve either a plastic structure made from styrene (fragile) or soldering a wire frame (complicated). These are probably both reasons why warlord hasn't made one …

Either way, try your hand at making your own.

Any idea on how to model the aerial?

If I were going to do it, I think I'd get some styrene rod from the model RR shop, and heat it and bend it. I'd make the 2 sides of the antenna like this; that is to say, one long piece with 2 bends. Then I'd use styrene cement to glue sections in between the 2 halves. Does that make sense?

By Epsom most 232 would have used the telescoping rod and star antennas not the bed frame. Both easier to model on a 231 than the bedframe!

Leadgend beat me to it, but to be honest it's probably not worth doing that. Calling a 231 a 232 will suffice unless you really need to be able to differentiate the two.

I was always under the impretion that the bedframe antenna was what made the 232 different. I was unaware of the 232 using a telescoping rod and star antenna.
