Do you used them in your wargames/dioramas?
I'm not speaking about the Fallschirmjäger or the Hermann Göering tank unit, it's about regular infantry Luftwaffe units.
There were 22 of them and they had to fight hard.

There is an interesting link about them.

If the answer is yes, which status do you give them (moral status)?.

Thanks in advance for your guidance.

They were of quite variable quality, with some very good units but some units that left a lot to be desired

Basically Goering rounded up every spare Luftwaffe grunt he could and made them into infantry, which as you expect ranged from good to poor

I have a Luftwaffe Fortress battalion, their bloody rubbish quality but do have concrete bunkers to hide in :-)

Nice to see Herman's huns kept in their place "Not much blitzkrieg in der Luftwaffe – no!"

Where the OOB includes them then of course. They're usually pretty rubbish, not much better than a "stomach" battalion.

Like to use 'em but nobody makes them in plastic

Creating a FOW Luftwaffe Force. So far only one Jager Platoon and a Scout Platoon painted. But two MG |Platoons at a friends being painted.
Have the main compoments for the force gathered.

Can't remember what they are rated at but low.

Yes. In Flames of War they are Reluctant Trained or Confident Trained, which makes them cheaper. They can also double up as Hermann Goering Division, which is nice. So the figs themselves can be used for mediocre to elite troops, which is the sort of flexbility I like in something as time-consuming as miniatures.

If you don't play FoW, Confident Trained is the baseline unit, Americans, British etc. Reluctant makes them a bit cheaper and a bit less likely to stick around…they'd rather be elsewhere.

I have a couple of Field Divisions which have been used in Megablitz games. They tend not to be highly rated….

I have also used LW Field Divs. I rate them as per their historical performance in the battle, which is generally poor and in line with how other people rate them and other second rate German infantry formations. If they need a specific troop category, 'speedbump' usually covers it.

I rather think Fallschirmpanzerdivision Hermann Goering is in a class of its own, but even their performance was less than stellar early in the their combat history, although they became very good indeed.

LW FD is also one of WW2 dressing up impressions. Be the best:)

"Like to use 'em but nobody makes them in plastic"

Well, they didn't all wear the special camo jackets or Fliegerbluse, and once amalgamated into the Heer, were equipped like every other Heer unit. Just the odd splash of LW blue on the gaiters, breadbags or ammo pouches is enough to make standard Heer into LW FD. 44 onwards anyway.

Turn up all over, also in the guise of FliegerHorst.
I did an ORBAT for them on the fire and fury website.

Not yet but will do one day. Would find it difficult to game NWE 1944 if I did not (the bits that interest me anyway) Plan on using BF figures (unless someone else comes out with a range by the time I get round to it) LWFD pack plus HG with a few Grenadier figs mixed in should do the job nicely.

"Would find it difficult to game NWE 1944 if I did not"

Indeed. That is where my plucky speedbumps of the 16th LWFD tend to find themselves.
