Hola fellow TMP'ers

I've played CY6 a little and they are a nice set of rules, but I'm looking for a set of rules that best captures a stand = 2-4 aircraft.

CY6 is nice, but I want more than 3 or 4 aircraft on the table, BUT, I also do not want 30+, hence a stand = 2 to 4 aircraft.

I know I'll loose some of that minute details, but I'm ok with that. Blue Sky was the only thing that popped into my mind, but I remember those rules to be a little…lacking.

I've been "out of the loop" rules wise so I was wondering if there was something out there a bit better for my needs.

Thanks folks

I can't think of any, offhand.

Acctingman69, You may have to write a set! I cannot think of one either and I own a ton of air wargames!

That's so odd that someone hasn't written any rules where a stand = 2 to 4 aircraft

Maybe I need to butcher a set of rules then? Some house rules perhaps?

Any suggestions?

The boardgames Downtown and Elusive Victory use this scale for their counters. They are Vietnam and Arab-Israeli 67-73. The rules are downloadable, maybe you can get some ideas from them.

I have pondered this idea in the past and came up short… I had the idea of using a rule set (any of them) and keeping the stats for each flight the same, just combining the firepower of the aircraft for how many planes are on the base. as planes are shot down, the firepower goes down.

It makes sense in my head… Haha!

I forgot about those HardRock! Operational level rules!

GZG's Full Thrust rules, or something similar would work.

Some mount multiple aircraft/spacefighters per stand, while others put just one per stand, and use a D6 to denote the aircraft in the unit (6 max.), changing it as losses occur.

Depending upon the type of spacefighters/aircraft in the unit, kills are easier/harder to achieve. For the average planes, 4 and 5 rolled on a D6 = one opponent shot down; 2 downed on a roll of a 6.

Each aircraft/spacefighter in a unit rolls a D6, each turn, against their opponents.

There are rules for fighters, heavy fighters, torpedo carrying craft, etc., which basically mimic the aircraft in the Pacific in WWII.

Aces get a +1 to their die rolls.

I think that, and/or something similar would work well, and you could use D4s, D3s, D2s for the aircraft remaining in the unit, if desired, or just use a D6, and ignore the values above what you have as a maximum number of aircraft for the unit.

For bombers, you could even use D10s (for groups of 9 aircraft), or D20s for groups of 18 planes in a formation.

Thanks for the suggestions folks….keep em coming (if you can!)

Don't know of any others – and hadn't heard of the ones mentioned. The appeal of air gaming for me is in the a/c and maneuvering them so I never looked for anything other than 1:1.

"Luftwaffe" (old AH offering) was a boardgame that played on an operational level representing 8th AF bomber raids – there might be some ideas in there you could use?

Again, thanks all!

Looks like butchering of some rules with my own spices thrown in!

Bag the Hun doesn't have multi-stand aircraft, but does have aircraft mostly moving in formation (and big advantages for staying in formation if possible). You can certainly play a game with a couple of dozen planes a side with no problem.

I was reading this and thought I'd add my 2p but then Dexter had pretty much said it.

While Bag the HUnis not a perfect '2-4 aircraft on one stand' – that size formation is the main manoeuvre unit. So it is kind of moving to the level you are looking for.

We typically play 10-12 aircraft a side for complete newbie games, with a player taking one flight normally, and they have all coped with it.
