No not another poll but I thought it would be interesting to see which side modern wargamers preferred when buying Freezywater flags.

So I analysed my sales date going back to 2006 and this is what I found …

I can never remember – whichever one was against the king!

York for me, because Lancastrians are usurpers!

York. Better claim, better kings (in balance).

I'm doing both factions, but if I had to pick one – York.

I solicited the locals for starting a War of the Roses campaign and the response was three for York, one for Lancaster.

York, Edward in particular

I always preferred the Yorkists!

Richard III had the better lines.
My WotR history is entirely based on Shakespeare.

The Lancastrians all seemed so morose and serious. Prefer the Yorkists. Though looks pretty balanced – perhaps many people field both armies in their collection?

When I do WOTR I do both sides.

Lord (old) Clifford. This is my king (Henry VI), York, I
do not mistake; But thou mistakest me much to think I do:
To Bedlam with him! is the man grown mad?

Henry VI. Ay, Clifford; a bedlam and ambitious humour
Makes him oppose himself against his king.

Lord Clifford. He is a traitor; let him to the Tower,
And chop away that factious pate of his.

You tell'em Old Clifford, you tell'em.

York.

I have Yorkists in 15mm and Lancastrians in 25mm. The Lancastrians look prettier because they get a wide variety of livery colours whereas the Yorkists get an awful lot of blue and murrey. Even Lord Hastings just reverses the blue / murrey combo to make it murrey and blue!!!!

It's nothing to do with Yorkshire and Lancashire and until Richard III came up here my home city of York was firmly Lancastrian (we consistently picked the losing side) but even so it's still The House of York for me.

Stark,I mean ,York.

Aubrey31 Jan 2012 3:18 a.m. PST

Dunno.
I would have said York because I live in York. But then AlanYork told me what he has posted here and shattered my illusions. As an illustration of how shallow I am I might now prefer the prettier troops!

I'm from Lancashire so that makes me a Lancastrian although all the land round here is still owned as it was back then by Lord Stanley so could do York and I'm painting a unit in the livery of the Duke of Buckingham now thats generally Lancastrian but could also be Yorkist.

For me, it's the pink rose of Rutlandshire! Down with red and white!
