Given the defunct ones I've seen, they failed to install the rainwater drains, and/or drainage pumps at the bottoms of most of them.

On the plus side, they make great, deep water diver testing/checkout silos, as long as your not too worried about all of that leaked and contaminated groundwater from the liquid missile propellant, oil, grease, etc.

This is of use to me. Thanks for sharing.

Good point about the drains/pumps, hindsight aside the basic structures still offer a starting point to build upon.

The best answer would be to use the poor drainage or water buildup as a part of the whole…(turn a blind eye to the toxins or use them to mutate the flora/fauna)…aqua culture, fishman cultists, water hazard/obstacle that promises treasure, water storage, etc.

I was considering extrapolating the common silo complex of 1-3 missile silos, command dome, power plant, etc. into a vast interlinked system of hundreds of silos, domes, power plants, etc. spread out over an area of 250sq miles…travel tubes linking the clusters…and consider the things we know now like the noted drain/pumps as well as light tubes of transmitting fiber optics to bring natural light to the tunnels, aqua culture, hydroponics, thermal energy, maybe even the fantasy tech of hydro compression cells, etc.

Take this vast network, insert a world ruin event, add a handful of decades or more, sprinkle with a helping of science fiction, maybe a pinch of fantasy…game setting :)

One problem with buying a silo is the ICBM doesn't come with it. Which is the worse case of false advertising I've ever seen.

I see 'Love Dungeon' potential here. Can't get more Freudian than a missile silo.

GURPS/sjg games has a Silo gaming map.

Those are *really* old plans, if they've got fuel and liquid O2 storage tanks. That's an Atlas or Titan 1 'feature.'

Considering how obsessive the Navy is about cleanliness as a way to reduce fire hazards, I would guess that there would not be a whole lot of grease, etc in the old silos.

What I cannot find (quickly) is how quickly hydrazine and the other rocket fuels degrade once spilled.

Those would be great for doing a Fantasy RPG in a post apocalypse world.

Mako11, those pumps were probably taken by the scrappers.
