I recently watched the movie "Ironclad". A dumb, fun movie where a lot of folks are cleaved and bludgeoned. This coupled with the the reading of "The Wars of the Roses" by Trevor Royle has really gotten my Medieval juices flowing. Can anyone recommend a fun set of rules for skirmish combat that is fairly comprehensive when it comes to castle sieges? If at all possible a points system would be great. I find points helps a bunch with building a balanced game. A D6 system would be nice, but it's not a must. As far as everything else, I'm open to suggestions. Thanks in advance. K |

Try Hail Caesar. Have played a few times and its fun and easy to pick up along with covering a large period. Not owning it (yet) I'm not sure about their siege rules. |

Thanks for the response. I already own Hail Caesar. That was going to be my go-to rules for large battles. Right now I'm looking for something to cover the small scale side of medieval combat. |

Song of Blades and Heroes works nicely – usually up to about 10 minis per side I should say. There's an Arthurian supplement, Song of Arthur and Merlin (which I wrote for Ganesha Games), which covers medieval combat and certainly gets used by me for all sorts of non-fantasy settings. Away from SBH, Saga could be nicely adapted if you wish to put a bit of work in (or just use the Normans' battle board?), and I've put Games Workshop's Lord of the Rings skirmish game to Dark Ages and medieval use. Worked just fine. All of these are D6 based and for individual skirmishing. None of them, though, were written specifically for the medieval period. |

Pig Wars is a perenial favourite. A simple, fun set that is emminently adaptable to the later medieval period. |

Do you guys know if Song of Blades and heroes deals with siege equipment? Pig Wars was a favorite with my group before I got there, I may need to resurrect it. |

Warrior Heroes: Armies and Adventure, from Two Hour Wargames is a great set, easily does historical and fantasy. |

Rat, rampantlion; both sets look very interesting. And they can both be picked up for under $40. USD I may have to try both of them. Thanks K |
