I do exactly the same in the UK every time I go into poundland, poundworld and a few other £1.00 GBP shops I have a look at the toys for ideas I usually have an GZG 15mm figure in my pocket for scale purposes :)

Try a 28mm figure , it has thicker bits poking out and is heavier too.
