Any really, but Red Army in particular ….

what colours would the skis and poles be?

Nearly all the photos I've seen are black and white (and the skis and poles look grey – well they would wouldn't they?) …

So I'm assuming natural wood polished on the undersides, and sort of white-ish camo but usually dirty on the tops (and for the poles) …

but maybe somebody knows better …

Finnish army had the skis painted white on the top. And in the winter time, that paint surface could stay relatively clean so I certainly would not weather it with any dirt.

As for the bottoms, heated tar was used for lubrication. This would give the ski bottoms a very dark brown colour.

Not sure about the poles.

The only colour illustration I can find is a drawing. First link.

Dog sleds! Now there's a way to make this project take a bit longer.

Very good video link – thanks.

The Finns and Soviets also used Reindeer sleds for heavy weapons transports.

Well, given my ancient set of boards, I would imagine white on top, and a black, or dark gray on the bottom.

As a cross-country skier, I've never found myself in a position where the top of my skis would get dirty. However, it's quite common that pine needles and leaves would fix themselves onto the waxed bottom.

Not sure about the poles.
Did the Poles field ski troops? Possibly in the Carpathian brigades…

Sorry, couldn't resist.

Thanks everyone – I went for weathered white with natural poles.
