John – I don't believe anyone is trying to imply that "anyone that doesn't like FoW = troll." I do perceive that the prevailing undercurrent of negativity relating to FoW is palpable and seems to be given a free pass whereas if it were directed at another gaming system it wouldn't be tolerated. |

Every game system has its faults, so finding them isn't really that hard – they're all over the web when you are speaking of a well-known game like FoW. I think people of a certain type like to belittle FoW because they see its faults and enjoy feeling "superior" to the game's adherents by pointing them out again and again. We probably see the same thing in the mass media – where the negative is the news, and the positive goes unreported/unnoticed. Where I see a game system that has problems, it receives one from a very small set of reactions from me: 1) I don't play it at all; 2) I play it, despite its faults; or 3) I play it, but only in a modified form. I see no point to 4) complain about it, even though I'm not playing it, have never played it, and never will play it. |

I think we all at some time like to feel superior to other people – in my circle of gamers we always make jokes about the unwashed gamers with their backpacks at shows, but of course in reality I am sure that they are mainly nice people, just as some beautiful looking women are actually horrible human beings. I loathe and detest the senior managers of the organisation i work for (the nebulous 'Management') but probably whilst some are careerist backstabber reptilian types off TV shows like 'Suits', most in reality are probably normal people trying to do their best. But if we couldn't grumble what we would do all day! |

FoW has reinvigorated our group. We had gotten a bit stale over the past couple years and now several of the guys are painting and collecting new armies. It's fun and we can get in a couple of games in a session. I'm not a rivet counter so I won't comment on its degree of historical fidelity, but it is lots of fun and our games are raucous affairs with lots of laughter. What's not to like about that? And the WWPD podcasts are great painting companions. I even ran the Houston marathon a couple weeks ago listening to Steve, Luke and Dirty John. |
