Just soliciting some general information about experience using Cafepress.com to make t-shirts… we're looking to have some done up for our club.

Thanks!

Haven't used Cafepress, but if you're interested in alternatives; we use Zazzle for our GASLIGHT merchadise and shirts, and have had a good experience with them.

I've used Cafepress several times for club garments, coffee mugs, tankards, etc. and I've had no complaints about the quality or service.

Some of the re-enactment units I know have used them. No complaints either.

I have a CafePress shop selling some vanity items, including t-shirts (search for Tornado Girl's Twister Lounge for Tornado Girl and Black Polly, Queen of the Pirates, geegaws!). If you supply hi-res images, they seem to print them very nicely (on white fabric, at least) and the colors hold up well. Same for other items. I've been pleased with them. beats paying the money upfront to a printer or t-shirt maker for dozens of expensive items (minimum) you may never be able to sell. With CafePress, there are no set-up fees, no minimums to buy, and a wide range of merchandise you can customize. I find it very handy.

We used CafePress in June of last year to do some shirts for a small convention.

The shirts looked as good as they could with the art we had

The heavier weight T's have a good feel to them.

Shipping was pretty quick.

At one point I was printing shirts and we sold them to defray the cost of the Convention. We couldn't come anywhere near the margins we hit with me donating my time and equipment. If you want quality, you will pay non-sweatshop prices for it.

I had to phone up 2 times to get errors/defects corrected with my shirts:
First was a print that didn't survive first contact with the washing machine (following the laundry instructions, no less).
Next one was a misprint.

The third one was juuuuust right.

Out of the 30+ shirts printed for the con, my first 2 were the only ones with problems of that sort, and were corrected politely and quickly.

If you want to have a low volume print run, they're great. If you want to sell a lot of them, then consider a local printer, they may be able to improve your margins.
