Hi Guys,

A few questions:

1. What are the best 15mm figures for the KGL?

2. Can you use standard British figures?

I need about 4 battalions worth for the penninsula war and it would be much easier if I could just use British figures.

Cheers.

Andy;
1. AB figures.
2. Yes.

Andy, as far as I can recall the British & KGL line inf had the same uniform , just different facings.
There may be slight differences in lights / rifles or cav such as hussars or dragoons.
As for best figures in 15mm , I think most people would agree AB, though these are expensive compared to others and are 18mm.
For 15mm my favourite are the new minifigs.
There are lots out there, including Fantasin, Old glory, essex, Battle honours, to name a few.

Thanks for the quick replies.

Agreed – AB figures do seem to be the best.

However, I can get quite a good deal on Blue Moon figures (18mm), but their full selection isn't available yet.

Has anybody bought some of the Blue Moon 18mm British that are available?

Edwulf25 Jan 2012 9:27 a.m. PST

Slight difference with rifles. Only significant difference in the line units is that moustaches were tolerated. So regular British line should work.

Front Door25 Jan 2012 9:29 a.m. PST

So no moustaches in the British line? I didn't know that!

DeanMoto25 Jan 2012 9:39 a.m. PST

Haha! That would be a cool looking unit with all of them sporting 'staches! Dean

Andy, I have some Blue Moon British. They are good figures, and if cost is an issue they will do very well. The AB are nicer.

CGM has very nice figures. Prices are less than AB. Some of them are as good if not better than some of the AB range IMO.

You might look at the Napoleon At War range. Not sure if they have KGL. The have a unique look and paint up very well according to reviews.

The best IMO is what you can paint up well. I do love AB but I also look for value when I buy. Dollar for dollar, I think CGM are a better value. Battle Honours are an extremely good value too. But they are a bit smaller and their bayonets are delicate (I believe AB bayonets are delicate too)

If you want the best looking figures for the lowest price. Battle Honours are number 1 on the list. Old Glory can be very nice but they do have some goofy poses. Blue Moon are nice and a bit more. They are sturdy figures but a notch down in sculpting IMO. I probably prefer them over OG though. CGM IMO are the best figures for a reasonable price.
AB are probably the best and some of their cavalry is just outstanding.

If I were looking solely at price and sculpting it would be in this order:

1. Battle Honours
2. CGM
3. Blue Moon
4. AB

If I were looking at figure quality
1. AB
2. CGM
3. Battle Honours
4. Blue Moon

If I were looking at durability
1. Blue Moon
2. OG
3. CGM
4. AB
5. Battle Honours

If you look at my lists, you will see that CGM is near the top in almost all categories. I really do believe they are the best overall value. But, if you are on a budget, I would go for Battle Honours or Blue Moon.

Don't get me wrong, I do love AB. I just won't buy an entire army because I can't get as good on pricing as the other lines. As a matter of fact, I don't recall getting any discounts for AB.

Moustaches looked foreign. Hussars could have them, and officers could do what they want. KGL, Swiss troops and Chassuers britanique were allowed them. Wasnt part of the uniform but alot of them would have sported one.

von Winterfeldt26 Jan 2012 5:06 a.m. PST

The only moustach battalion of the KGL was that of the 2nd light battalion – against regulations and sometimes they had to be shaved off, but the they let if grow again.
I am not avare that any other infantry battlios did wear moustaches

Ancientsgamer:

I've had a look at the CGM range – very nice. Do you buy direct and what's their P&P like?

I can get a 40% discount on Blue Moon figures, so they are by far the cheapest option to me. My only problem with BM is the very thick flag poles (and the fact that they are not available yet!).

Not planning to buy just yet – just looking at the options that are out there.

Scott MacPhee26 Jan 2012 5:46 p.m. PST

I cut out the flag poles and replaced them with brass wire. They look much better now. It's a quick fix.

NigelM27 Jan 2012 8:32 a.m. PST

Line uniform was the same as British but Light were similar but not the same as Rifles, there was also quite a bit of variation between 1st and 2nd Bttlns. I am as yet to find figures in 15/18mm that suit all the options for KGL Light without quite a bit of conversion.
