With the bicentennial of the war upon us, I hought I'd post up a list of the various makers of War of 1812 figures, starting from large size (54mm) to small (15mm).

Not sorted by quality. Where British/Canadian aren't specifically linked, I expect the maker's regular Napoleonic British are the expected opponents.

Useful & key (but not specific lines) makers, like Conquest or Blue Moon for gaps like Iroquois or Shawnee aren't listed in this range.

Please add any missing.

Quartermaster/Falcon UK has a 15mm castings that can be used for the War of 1812. They have a seperate Canadian range.

Baccus's 6mm Napoleonic line, with it's Indians from the AWI line and some militia strips will work well for 1812.

Of course, Ken from All the King's Men keeps trying to waylay me with those lovely 54mm pieces of goodness. But I have been strong and stuck with my Kuckleduster, Old Glory, and Conquest figures.

I suppose we shall have to have Words at one of these conventions.

Coming to Cold Wars, Ken?

For 20mm (SMALL 20mm, more like today's 18mm), the Frying Pan and Blanket range is fairly complete even though the poses are a bit dated. The prices are still amazing considering they are 20mm and come with metal stands. Works out to be .41 cent per figure, including the stand cost.

I haven't order from them for a few years, so not certain if their prices have increased since my last order. And there have been some comments on their slow response/service, but I have never heard of anyone not receiving their order.

Might be a good range for someone to use to keep costs down. I am working on 28mm with Knuckleduster, but still think about a 20mm project as well!

Some of the Foundry Americans are still available:

My only beef with Frying Pan and Blanket is that they are some old school sculpts which means you still have to paint in some straps, etc. Not a big deal and their range is quite extensive. Didn't realize they were on the small end of 20mm. It might mean that they would blend in with Blue Moon from a height perspective?

I started a thread asking about what to use for American 1812 in 10mm since I am not aware of figures for this theatre in this size. It shold be useful for 15mm as well….

The Frying Pan & Blanket have their own charm painted up. They are slight, non-heroically proportioned figures.

The natives are some of the better ones out there for using in 18mm (though I haven't ordered the Blue Moon figures yet to compare.

I should sit down and take some photos of the different native figures out there in 15/18mm.

For 28mm the Conquest range is pretty hard to beat, though there are some very nice Perry's in their AWI line.

I ordered some Frying Pan and Blanket figures last year and the price was the same as the 2007 price. As it happens, the visitor center at Chalmette Battlefield (site of the battle of New Orleans) has a few for sale; this is where I bought my first batch.

Lancer Miniatures War of 1812 28mm (not to be confused with Lancer Miniatures Web Site selling WW1)had about two dozen figures mostly American militia. The figures were resonably priced (about 18 months ago) but postage was 25% to Canada from the U.K., so, I did not order any. He advertized through his blog but I am not sure if he is still in business…sent an email…waiting for a reply. His Blog is

I am a Knuckleduster fan.

Thanks IronDuke…

I had lost track of the Lancer ones.

Also the Matchlock 28mm link I first posted is the wrong page in the Minifigs listings. It should be:

I am pleased to see that some of the Foundry figs are still available. I have a bunch of them, and the volunteers are especially useful. The top hatted guys are just right for both US and Canadian militia. I reenacted this period for many years. It will be nice to see it get some attention!

Thoroughbred Miniatures does 15mm naval vessels, cannons, and troops.

artslave;
If you are still looking for top hatted (round hats) U.S. & Canadian militia, check out the Knuckleduster range. They have a variety of types and are superb castings.

Barzso Playsets make a Battle of New Orleans playset in 54 mm that includes US Regs, Militia, Free Men of Color, Cherokee Indians and Pirates. British regulars and a Cosgrove Rocket launcher and crew for the attackers.
A two piece "Line Jackson" made of foam is the centeriece of the set. Character figures of Jackson and Lafitte also were included along with a great box. Pix can be found in the above links. Bagged sets of figures can still be purchased.

Britains had a short lived 1812 line of painted 54 mm metal
figures out about 10 years ago. They discontinued the line quickly because of poor sales. A shame because they are beautiful figures.

Various 54 mm plastic soldier companies (Call To Arms, Hat, Etc.) make Naps that can be used for both sides Accurate and Marx make figures that can be used as Militia and Pirates.

There are lots of conversion possibilities for both sides and various plastic toy soldier sites around the 'net have examples.

I suppose 10mm Napoleonics can be painted up as just about anything but there are no lines touted as such. A fine 200th anniversary year gone to waste.

artslave24 Jan 2012 12:13 a.m. PST

Thanks IronDuke! I'll check them out. I also need to up-grade my Native American figures. Conquest look very good. Most of what I have are from earlier periods.

I hadn't recognized that Frontier Miniatures is back in business, even if this is limited and via a proxy. Can Crescent Root be far behind? The world wonders . . .
