I remember seeing some at a convention a couple years ago, and I'm finally feeling interested enough in starship gaming to start picking up and painting a few ships, but in particular, I wanted to start with Battlestar Galactica, both the new and old style stuff, but I can only seem to find new and old raiders and heavy raiders and tons of new and old colonial stuff, but not much else. |

Maybe you are thinking of Fox Miniatures ( foxminiatures.com ) ? I dont see them on their website, but I know they used to carry both the old and new battlestars, the old cylon basestars ( as well as the new ) , and tons of different fighters. Or, maybe Studio Bergstrom ( link ) ? |

iron wind metals but they only have then at shows. |
Dynaman8789 | 23 Jan 2012 4:46 a.m. PST |
I'm pretty sure the Iron Wind Metals ones were on sale at the HMGS conventions. So if you saw them for sale in the dealers area those were probably the ones you saw. |
Wolfprophet | 23 Jan 2012 4:48 a.m. PST |
I checked Bergstrom. Could only find TOS raiders and TNS raiders and heavy raiders, which was the problem. Need the basestars and other ships for them to launch from. Thanks for the leads guys
So, aside from shows, which I never make it to
Is there any other place to get ahold of the Iron Wind Metals ones? Or does anyone like Ravenstar make some and I haven't noticed 'em yet? Cause I'm not big on the idea of having to put in $30 USD for one all metal ship if I can possibly get a resin equivalent for about half that and have less problems finding a flight stand for it
. At least based on what I'm seeing with the colonial ships. |
Samulus | 23 Jan 2012 4:59 a.m. PST |
Fox miniatures does them all, but you have to email him to get a list of the ships and prices, problem is, I can't remember his email. Must be on his site. I think Hangar 18 might do them too, altho I think he might have packed it in recently. |
Wolfprophet | 23 Jan 2012 5:03 a.m. PST |
Oh, I just saw them on Ravenstar's list on his blog. Thanks for the other leads too guys. I'll look into everything before making final choices on who to buy what from. I suppose next question would be rules suggestions? Up to now, my only experience is with tactical level land combat rules. |

Bergstrom does have basestars, old an new. You just have to hit the right page. Very good prices too. link |

Thanks. I totally missed those somehow. In fact, I'm pretty sure those were what I saw at the convention. Not the Iron Wind ones. |

Jim carries the Ravenstar BSG line as well as the metal BSG minis. He has expanded the options on the raptors too. There are now 4 or 5 versions. If you can't get to the cons then let him know via email or pm. mike |

As Samulus said, you might to take a look at Hanger 18 as well: hangar18fasa.com Some of the BSG stuff is "archived" but probably still available if you ask nicely. Bergstrom, Ravenstar, Hanger 18, Fox, Iron Wind – I think that's about it for traditional Cylon basestars. Behrle Hubbuch has some nice inspired-by Cylons: link and Menacing Miniatures has some targets for you to blow up: link If you're not already registered over on Starship Combat News you might to do so before ordering. Some of the companies above offer discounts to (or run sales for) SCN forum members. |

As for rules, check out "Colonial Battlefleet" at wargame vault. It's been at the top of the best sellers list there for most of the last year (fyi, haven't played it, but it is the most visible set currently out there.) |
captainquirk | 23 Jan 2012 11:25 a.m. PST |
Colonial Battlefleet paired with the Man Versus Machine supplement will give you a very close BSG experience and a very playable game. I believe that they still have the two PDFs bundled together at a discount. |
Landorl | 23 Jan 2012 11:52 a.m. PST |
I don't know if you saw this site. It has a lot of Colonial stuff, and Cylon fighters, but I don't see any Cylon capitol ships. link |
Wolfprophet | 23 Jan 2012 12:02 p.m. PST |
Thanks guys! After I sell off a few things taking up too much space on my display shelves, I'll start off with getting those rules, a battlestar, some Vipers, a new series Basestar and some new series raiders to get started with. All the help is much appreciated. The Menacing minis stuff looks really nice
Parts to build your own custom ships? Hell yes! I can already smell the grossly overbudget monstrous colonial carrier with enough planes to rival the airforce of an entire planet
. Muahahahahaha. |
Mako11 | 23 Jan 2012 1:24 p.m. PST |
Lots of choices, with many of them superb. The only hard part is figuring out what to buy first, and in what scale(s), e.g. small capital ships; the larger, medium-sized ones; or the really big, resin or plastic models. Same goes for the fighters, e.g. the 1" long ones, or the smaller, Fleet Scale minis. The latter work very well with the resin and plastic ships that are about 12"+ – 18" long. To add even more to the confusion, there's a mid-range of resin capital ships that are about 6" – 7" long too. Can't recall who makes them, but a little searching on the net should turn them up. And, or course, I haven't even mentioned the die-cast fighters, until now, but you'll need a very large Battlestar or Baseship to launch from, or recover those on. |

Oohh. Ravenstar, I must say. I like the looks of your ships the most. I saw the ninja magic stuff, very appealing. even the stuff that's not battlestar inspired. I'm going to start small though and try to control myself this time. Went a little overboard on the 15mm sci-fi stuff, but have caught up pretty well now. I'd say that a Basestar and a Battlestar with appropriate complements of planes, both fighters and boarding craft would be most ideal to start with, then add destroyers, maybe some cruisers and a few other such ships later. Bit of explanation needed on those sizes though… Like… I don't want to do the 1" fighters or 1" capitals. I's like the smaller fighters like these ones link but what ships would go best with them size wise? I'd like to have the options to add support and other smaller ships later on as well with everything being a reasonably believable scale. The ships at least. strikecraft are open as far as I'm concerned since they can be flying at any angle in comparison to the ship, but having them in scale with the ships and having the full range of ship options at the same time would be the most perfect circumstances, but I doubt I'd get that lucky. |
Ravenstar | 24 Jan 2012 5:44 p.m. PST |
my NU Basestar is 4 inch long. if you wish to email me i will send you any information on sizes and battelstars you want. |
Mako11 | 24 Jan 2012 5:44 p.m. PST |
With the small, Fleet-scale fighters (much less than 1" long), the large plastic and resin ships go with them the best. You can get both the new, and old series styles off of eBay, and from some of the specialist Sci-Fi modeling companies. These will be on the order of 12" – 18" long, depending on the models. The new style Battlestar and Cylon Basestar (resin model) are about 12" long, or so, and the Pegasus is about 17" – 18" long. The plastic kits are reasonably priced, in the $40 USD – $60 USD range, depending upon manufacturer, and/or auction price. The Pegasus will run you a couple of hundred dollars plus, in resin. There are few other ships available in this scale currently, other than some of the civies. The latter are easier to find. |
Wolfprophet | 24 Jan 2012 8:54 p.m. PST |
Hmm. For as awesome as that sounds, it looks like I'll be going with the stuff roughly the size of Ravenstar's models. While I'd like a believable sized ship, $40 USD – $60 USD range is quite an investment on a single ship
(This coming from the guy who just bought a box of space marine devastators today
I needed the weapons and bodies for projects! Got it from my LGS at least, not the GW in town. Happened to have an OLD price sticker on it too from about 4 price increases ago. Lucky day.) With the smaller stuff, I'd be able to pit it against other random fleets I might end up accumulating wouldn't I? Stuff like the Firestorm Armada from Spartan Games or GZG's Full Thrust line, right? If so, that would help out a lot for building up a civilian fleet to make that classic rag-tag fleet of survivors, or to just give a full-fledged colonial fleet more enemies to fight. |

I believe that they still have the two PDFs bundled together at a discount. Absolutely right, Cap'n. And may I say, it was delightful to see, for once, it not being Steel Dreadnaught mentioning it. I'm aware of other high opinion, but he seems the only one thinking of posting about it. However, as the original post seemed about figs not rules, I won't go into my usual FT fanboy rant. I am so 'me too' about Hanger 18, Ravenstar, and Studio Bergstrom. Folks that go the extra mile in a big way! Doug |
