Well, I finally got tired of waiting for Leviathans, so who makes 1/1200 models of ships from the tail end of the ironclad era up to the interwar period? I'd love to find 1/1200 IJN Tone and BBV Ise models, too. Does anyone make them, or do I need to bust out the plans? |

Houston makes 1/1000, but I am not aware of any that make full hull which I think you would want for Leviathans as most wargame models are waterline. |

Models of just about any ship you can think of from that period are available from the various European 1/1200 and 1/1250 manufacturers (e.g. Navis, Neptun, etc.). There are many dealers who frequent Ebay. Another good bet is waterline-ships.co.uk |

I'm OK with waterline models, that lets me build my own levitation system. That's guys! |

Lion, If you are in the states Alnavco is a good bet for the interwar stuff. Navis and Neptun are very nice but expensive. Joe |

Lion, Are you set on 1/1200? There is a ton of stuff available in 1/2400. Here is a sample of what can be done with Panzerschiffe and Viking forge. rallyroundtheflag.blogspot.com All the panzerschiffe models run $3 USD-5 which is a fraction of what you will pay for 1/1200. Just a thought. |

Afilter, Nice stuff! Panzerschiffe stuff is great. Once I played a game in 1/1200 though I could not go back. see my post Oct 2010 at PlatoonForward.blogspot.com Of course I rarely use anything bigger than a destroyer. Lion, Alnavco stuff is good for gaming. Some of the other companies stuff are a little nicer but are more for collectors or David Manely who is a true naval gamer through and through! Good Luck Joe |

Joe, I have been seeing alot more stuff available in 1/1200 for smaller class ships like DDs and DE at my LGS. Many seem more affordable as well. I have not looked into it, but I believe there are some rules out there focusing on smaller ship actions. Me, I like to see the battlelines engaged which is wht 1/2400 is more practical for my purposes. |

Afilter, For battlelines you are right, 1/2400 is the way to go and Panzershchiffes are great for the money. Once you paint them up they look great. Was not happy with any of the rules sets out there so I wrote my own. ( My biggest gripe was I wanted tactical detail like turrets out but I didn't want to have hull boxes. Finally skinned that cat.) Might publish them some day but have 2 projects ahead of them; Squadron Forward and Middle of NoWhere. Thanks Joe |

1/1200 is the nominal scale for Leviathans and Aeronef. I happen to like it for early-20thC ship sizes. It gets really unwieldy for big ships like the Iowas and Yamato, and positively silly for gaming the battles from "Last Exile", where most of the ships are 2000 feet long (not a typo, two thousand feet). I don't mind paying 20-40 bucks a model, though. I don't need many of them. |
