I have a few periods I've been collecting with every intention of painting up one day but just haven't got to yet.

WW2 North Africa – this 15mm collection was for Flames of War and I have two decent sized armies, complete with support vehicles- one British, one German – haven't painted or assembled ANY of it. I will, just haven't yet.

Less excusable to me is a huge collection of 15mm AWI (I consider Horse & Musket my bread and butter) where I've painted up just 2 American units. That's it. I own two complete forces, probably too heavy on militia, but with arty, cav, the works – almost 40 units in all. And I love the period, can't wait to get started on it but too many other periods catch my attention.

What games do you own that is no where near completion, yet requires no more purchases?

Mooseworks820 Jan 2012 4:50 a.m. PST

SYW Bittburg Germans
WW2 Germans
Fantasy Empire
VSF British

A 15mm Covenanter army for the Bishop's War has not even been unpacked and checked. Bought more than 25years ago. Every other project has at least a fieldable force finished though many have figures not yet ready to join the ranks.

There are limits of course especially in Historicals: if I fielded 300 regiments of American Revolution militia, or 40 regiments of British cavalry for the same period, I've clearly gone too far.

Though I appreciate the sentiment there Mal! I fall victim to it continually.

Oddball20 Jan 2012 5:28 a.m. PST

15mm Arab/Israeli

I've got vehicles from '56 to '73. Armor, APCs, sof skin, artillery, aircraft and re-inforced infanty company with support weapons for both sides.

Painted and based for IABSM, but never has seen the game table.

Also buildings and hills.

Grelber20 Jan 2012 5:41 a.m. PST

US Cavalry vs Indians
Bought it. Painted 2 units. Sold off the unpainted stuff. Bought new when I visited Fetterman Massacre, Wagon Box Fight, Rosebud and Little Bighorn battlefields about 9 years ago. Haven't done a thing with it.
One day . . .

A humngous amount of 15mm fantasy literally given to me for free by a friend getting out of mass unit gaming and going strictly into skirmish/RPG.

TodCreasey20 Jan 2012 5:56 a.m. PST

Swashbucklers in 28mm. I have both Foundry collections but haven't got moving yet.

28mm Dark Ages Scots although they are underway

28mm Napoleonic Austrians although I expect good progress on them later in the year when my Russians are done

Scale Creep Miniatures20 Jan 2012 6:16 a.m. PST

A few years ago I did a major clean out of the unpainted lead. I sorted it all into projects and sold off all the projects that would not be 50% done within 12 months. So now I don't have any real "all lead" collections that aren't at least 75% painted.

Feet to the fire I'd have to say either 15mm WW2 (where I have loads of finished Soviets, Germans, Americans, Brits and EW French) or else 20mm SCW where i have two complete armies (though small) and perhaps another dozen units unpainted. But this collection is headed to E-bay anyway as I'm abandoning everything but 6mm and 15mm.

nickinsomerset20 Jan 2012 6:31 a.m. PST

Massive 28 mm Italian wars, about 1500 figures. Started off with Foundry Gendarmes for my Warhammer armies about 14 Years ago! Huge collection of War of the Ring including 4 Olifants.

Tally Ho!

Very good sized force of Brits for Zulu wars. Have had them for around 10 years

CmdrKiley20 Jan 2012 6:37 a.m. PST

Clan War, been accumulating them for years. Have enough for several armies. Never painted or assembled any.

15mm Pirates, had them 15 years, I will paint them one day.Honest.
15mm Chariot minis Greeks and Persians-I may paint them one day.
28mm penisular war Napoleonics for Sharp Practice
Massive 1/285 cold war Soviet and NATO forces and a whole lot of WW2 some go back 30 years, I probably won't get them finished.
15mm Gurkhas for Burma – on my to do list.
15mm Early war British, will paint them this year if PSC stop distracting me.
Oh.. nearly forgot. An old BF Sting of the Scorpion boxset, maybe later this year
There are probably others too, and there will probably be more after Salute, I guessI lack focus.

Unrepentant Werewolf at work20 Jan 2012 7:02 a.m. PST

A metric ****ton of 15mm SF from every company I could find. Vehicles, troops, scenery as well.
I was getting bored with 28mm and have storage problems so thought it would help to swap scales.
Hadn't decided which rules to use and bought everything that I liked the look of!
One of these days I'll make a start…

spectre20 Jan 2012 7:14 a.m. PST

Doctor Who from Blacktree. One of at least everything. Only have Cybermen, Daleks, UNIT troops and a few Doctors painted. Still have all the individual characters, Sea Devils, Sontarans, and a huge T-Rex (in lead) to paint.

John the OFM20 Jan 2012 7:41 a.m. PST

That's easy.
25/28mm Landsknechts and Highlanders.
Close third is 25/28mm HYW English (or French…I'm flexible.)
Distant 4th is Irish Civil War.

I'm not even considering my 28mm chariot army hordes, becuse the vast majority are on sale now to pay the mortgage. Hopefuly I can keep the Trojan Wars project, which is yet another unfinished mess.

richarDISNEY20 Jan 2012 8:11 a.m. PST

cavcrazy20 Jan 2012 8:24 a.m. PST

25/28mm AWI, but I'm working on that right now, so by this time next year I'll be on to something new.

kallman20 Jan 2012 8:33 a.m. PST

Oh this is a fun thread where we bear our guilty collector souls. With that stated…

Early Hundred Years War English and Scots: The bulk of the infantry would be easy to finish. It is all the pain staking time I take with the individual heraldry on the knights and nobles that holds this one up.

15 mm WW II for North Africa waiting to be done

28 mm ACW: I have a ton pained yet there is still more that needs to be finished in order to bulk out the Confederacy.

40K Tau/Blood Angels/Eldar/Chaos Space Marines; again I have tons painted but I seem to still have more.

15mm Carthaginians: Most of it has been cleaned and based but little has seen paint.

BW195920 Jan 2012 8:40 a.m. PST

10mm ECW, still looking for a set of rules. Should be able to do a good sized force for both sides.

Tommy2020 Jan 2012 8:42 a.m. PST

All of them.

religon20 Jan 2012 8:58 a.m. PST

Largest unfinished projects…

28mm…Celts, Huns, Persians (but they are progressing)
15mm…most daunting are the Vikings and Macedonians

SpuriousMilius20 Jan 2012 9:04 a.m. PST

15mm ECW, Wild West, Gaslight, Saxons & Picts for Pig Wars, Irish for WAB Shield Wall, ECW Skirmish, SciFi for 5150, Dark Elves, Chaos, Orks & Gobbos for Warhammer, Dark Eldar & Chaos for 40K, Warmaster, Condottieri

15mm Fantasy, Hordes of figures, most are, at best, primed.

15mm Napoleonic is more complete with only Russia and Prussia to be painted (but a couple 1000 figures each)

redbanner414520 Jan 2012 10:38 a.m. PST

15mm Napoleonic Austrians. Finished the French, Russians and Prussians 10 yrs ago. Haven't started the white coats.

Altius20 Jan 2012 10:59 a.m. PST

Easy. The Mexican American War, 28mm. I have all the men, guns and horses to do both sides of the Battle of Palo Alto, plus some additional units which would enable me to play almost any other battle of the war. But for 6 years, this pile of metal has sat on my shelf unpainted except for a single battalion of Mexican infantry. But this year, I resolve to finally finish it, and I'll post photos just to prove it.

wehrmacht20 Jan 2012 11:05 a.m. PST

28mm Plains Wars – have to get at this for the summer. Perhaps a LBH battle. Foundry with some Old Glory figures.

28mm Medieval (Barons' War) – have a ton to paint, mostly Foundry stuff with some Citadel, Black Tree, Crusader.

28mm Napoleonics – have a British Peninsular army to paint. Foundry, Victrix and Perrys.

WW2 North Africa. 28mm Germans, Italians and Brits from Battle Honors. 15mm LRDG from BF.

And that's just the beginning…

6mm Baccus Ancients: About 35 pounds of figures

I stopped looking at numbers and started with weight. This is for a stalled C&C:A project to do all the armies in large scale 6mm bases. I have nice Imperial Roman and Celt armies that I can use but need to do more.

Frederick Supporting Member of TMP20 Jan 2012 12:38 p.m. PST

ACW – I have hundreds and hundreds of unpainted 15mm (mind you, I have thousands and thousands of painted ones)

WWII – hundreds of unpainted microarmour vehicles (hundreds of painted ones, too)

While I do have other piles o' lead, they are nowhere near as big as those two

paul liddle20 Jan 2012 1:29 p.m. PST

WW2 28mm Russians – been sitting unpainted for about five years, everytime I plan to start some other project seems more attractive.

Someday I'll get round to them!.

Tom Reed20 Jan 2012 2:15 p.m. PST

15mm WWII for North Africa. I have almost all of the Americans painted, but have no where near enough Germans, painted or not.

Chuckaroobob20 Jan 2012 2:17 p.m. PST

Bought 15mm Ancient Macedonians in 1985, painted up enough to play but have no opponents. Bought 25mm Macedonians 5 years ago, still in boxes. Learning curve? Flatlined.

Martin Rapier20 Jan 2012 4:10 p.m. PST

1/6000th scale naval. Tons of the stuff, never painted a single one. I cant bear the pain of filing the cast bases off the DDs. Whose stupid idea was that?

Micman Supporting Member of TMP20 Jan 2012 5:24 p.m. PST

Which pile is the biggest? It used to be the 15mm SciFi but that has been whittled down now. Currently 15mm DBA armies are in the lead, followed up 15mm Prussian Napoleonics, and space ships. There is a box of 25mm Spanish American ware figures also.

galvinm20 Jan 2012 7:52 p.m. PST

20mm plastics. Everything. Thousands. Just a fraction is painted.

15mm ACW thousands painted. Thousands not.
25mm Greeks &Romans. Hundreds painted. Hundreds not.
10mm Ancients. Have a bunch of armies with thousands of figs each. Again, half painted, half not.

This is depressing. I'm gonna stop now.

Syrinx020 Jan 2012 8:05 p.m. PST

My Dacian force is probably the largest unpainted group with my 40K Orks right behind. Myy IG and Skaven only have a few new units to paint. I'm planning on focusing on my new Zulu forces plus some pulp then returning to the Dacians.

Dave Crowell21 Jan 2012 12:09 p.m. PST

30 pounds+ in weight of Arthurian Britain in 28mm.

40mm AWI is a close second, but only because the figures are larger.

rictenner21 Jan 2012 3:36 p.m. PST

I started painting figures over 25 years ago – I joked at the time I would have a heart attack if I ever completed a project that I had the figure for! I now make sure I always have a few (hundred) unpainted just in case I was right!!

Chortle Fezian21 Jan 2012 6:52 p.m. PST

20mm WW2 Britannia miniatures Germans. Bought them 8 years ago. I'm so damn fussy none of the Camouflage jobs I've done for the Germans have been satisfactory.

I had a ton of other figures which I'd never get finished, so I started a painting service.

28mm WSS
I bought a 20-24 man infantry unit of all the different troop types Front Rank makes and 12 man cav units.600 or so figures.
I painted 2 French cavalry units the rest are in boxes still bare lead.
I hope to have them painted by a service sometime as I will never get around to doing it.

20mm ww2 Germans, Russians, French and US, bught all sorts of bits and pieces, a lot 2nd hand, some new, got some finished/painted but then realised it was more effort than it was worth. Now I'm half thinking of getting rid of it all….

7 Years War Revell Austrians….still waiting for someone to bring out decent Prussians and Hungarians

le Grande Quartier General Supporting Member of TMP03 Feb 2012 9:10 a.m. PST

I just have to laugh at myself when I go downstairs and see 5k painted 6mm napoleonic figures for "1809" and then the boxes holding the other 10k unpainted ones. I did the figs so far, but I guess I'll paint some of everything and all the "fun" units, and then find a good painter who has kids that need to go to college!

25mm medieval Poles. I'm pretty sure I'll never paint them…..but wargamers can't die if they have unpainted metal I've heard.
