This used to be celebrated all through the south, but particularly in Virginia as "Lee/Jackson" day. It is good to remember and honor Robert E. Lee, one of the most revered generals that these United States have ever produced.

When I was a kid I was always a bit confused by this name, how could a Chinese be a general in the ACW ;-)? Do you know where it comes from? Is it common in the US?
