I love this Brigade 6mm power armour, very "Ma.K.-esque":

picture

Any ideas?

Thanks,

w.

clkeagle17 Jan 2012 8:53 a.m. PST

There's nothing close to that right now. Brigade is planning to release a few 15mm figures this year… maybe if enough of us email Tony, he'll have something like that sculpted?

For now, the best you're going to get is the Kremlin Minis Rising Sun MANITOU: link

We have the Corsair suits coming for our 15mm Earthdoom line in the next few months. One warning: they are very large.

DMS 139/140 Hound Dog Walkers from GZG from the Dirtside II 6mm range, below is one of the two heavy weapons figures with shoulder mounted multi missile launcher, but the standard troopers are just holding the hand weapon in two different poses and all stand about 21mm tall.

Mooseworks817 Jan 2012 10:06 a.m. PST

Switch to 6mm.

wehrmacht17 Jan 2012 10:48 a.m. PST

@wargamer1972

We already play SF games in 6mm, 15mm, 28mm and (soon) 54mm… I bought some of the PA suits pictured above for my 6mm force, and thought they would go great with my 15mm guys as well. Hence the question.

@clkeagle

Sending email to Tony! :-D

Regards,

w.

@ khurasanminiatures How big is very large? Out of curiosity…

khurasanminiatures17 Jan 2012 11:30 a.m. PST

That will be revealed! (He said mysteriously.)

But one thing to consider is that the Corsair trooper's legs only go into the first joint in the suit legs….

Unlike the aliens, humans do not use vehicles in Earthdoom. Humans are vehicles.

One of the alien types, the Slen-Darr, are over seven feet tall, but their warriors look like pipsqueaks compared to a Corsair.

moocifer17 Jan 2012 11:55 a.m. PST

Those Brigade 6mm belong to us. The only way to get them is to go 6mm !! 4TW \o/ :P

It makes a change for other scales to be envious.

And VERY cool looking. Nice design!

But one thing to consider is that the Corsair trooper's legs only go into the first joint in the suit legs….

If that's the case, should the suit's shoulder joints be lower on the torso?

Another vaguely similar option I thought of – the Laserburn Imperial "Guard" suit.

The old Martian Metals 15mm Aslan looked a lot like that, but alas, they are no more.

Thornhammer17 Jan 2012 3:45 p.m. PST

Slen-Darr? Oh, now that's just a groaner. Sounds like a bad He-Man villain.

Comes in a two pack with Corpu-Lent, accessory is a wafer-thin mint.

So they're actually light mecha, not powered armor suits?

Phoooey!

Those don't look like a particularly tough sculpt.

I think I need some of the 6mm ones myself. Got a 30hr plane flight coming up and need to get a move on with my 6mm kit.

Love the Brigade Models PAs in 6mm

I definitely would love to see them in 15mm. Guess I better join the group emailing Tony grin

khurasanminiatures17 Jan 2012 10:12 p.m. PST

So they're actually light mecha, not powered armor suits?

No, they are power armoured suits. The troopers legs do not need to go all the way down to the ground for it to be power armour.

Nowhere in starship troopers for instance is it specified that the limbs of the man go all the way to the end of the suit's limbs.

TheCount18 Jan 2012 7:15 a.m. PST

Really, what's the diff whether it's a "suit" or a light mecha, either works for me(in my mind, not in reality). I'm happy to imagine the man(or woman) in a foetus position, operating the suit with something akin to an X-Box controller. Comfy!

Regards, TC.

Lion in the Stars18 Jan 2012 8:56 a.m. PST

Light mecha have joysticks inside (or are completely unmanned with the dork back the rear with the beer holding a controller).

suits have master/slave setups.

If you've seen the anime: Gasaraki TAs are light mecha, but a Shirow Landmate is a suit. Even though a big Landmate is the size of a TA.

Eli Arndt18 Jan 2012 9:52 a.m. PST

Really this is an old arguement and one that has no definitive answer.

There is no reason that a 50ft mecha couldn't have a movement amplication system using the same slave controls as a smaller suit. One you are mirroring human movement you can just scale it up.

The biggest obstacle is your interface as the farther from human size you get, the more you have to account for the scale perception of the pilot. But that's what training is form.

Heinlein did leave things a bit loose in that regard, yet he implied IMHO that the man in the suit simply wore the suit like, well, a *suit.*evil grin

What I don't get is the ergonomics of such an arrangement, but that's just me…

What I don't get is the ergonomics of such an arrangement,

Yup, that's why we went for the design we did, actually.

That, and it looks kickass cool when standing next to a normal 15. wink

ThorLongus20 Jan 2012 4:14 a.m. PST

atenocities is working on a 15mm NRF hard suit and of course
micro panzer Jason has some on the way, now Khurasan… we will soon be spoiled for choices and all 3 look excellent

Karaz12320 Jan 2012 11:36 a.m. PST

I would advise using some greenstuff / putty on the excellent GZG NAC new power armour. Just sculpt a solid shell like upper torso. Should work and would not be too difficult.

Reviving this topic .. and answer to the question in the title …

picture

AVAMANGO07 Jun 2012 4:03 a.m. PST

Oooooooo i like these they look nice and chunky which for me means simple to paint, when will they be ready for production? i see the first trooper in the photo is pointing so i assume he is the NCO, the second guy being the standard trooper? and the third chap being the SAW's operator. Would it be possible to have the standard troopers equipped with the same weapon as the NCO? then the second guy in the photo could be wielding a flamer of sorts, i just like to see my troopers with matching weapons and equipment other than the specialist troopers. If you were to add another trooper firing from the hip and include a duplicate trooper you could sell them in squad packs of five.

Johny Boy07 Jun 2012 4:15 a.m. PST

Highly recommend the Corsair suit option, stunning models, there is also the option of Defiance Games forthcoming Hardsuit offering which captures a sense of the M.A.K look.

picture

Will probably be going along the route of combining the hardsuit and the corsair models myself, but yes, future looks rosy for Powersuits :-)

KJdidit07 Jun 2012 6:32 a.m. PST

Tony, what is the approximate height on those PA troopers?

Kev134007 Jun 2012 7:01 a.m. PST

@ Tony – these look excellent, any idea when they might be available? I've been meaning to make an order for a while and these look like 'must have's.

Cheers,

Kev

@AVAMANGO – these are the basic models (still work in progress), we'll be chopping and swapping arms to make variants so the squad leader will end up with a standard weapon rather than the missile launcher. It was just easier for the sculptor to make them this way.

@KJdidit – around 18-20mm, we don't have them back from the sculptor yet (he's still working on them) so I can't give you a more accurate answer yet

@Kev1340 – sometime over the summer, can't be more precise than that I'm afraid

stroezie07 Jun 2012 10:21 a.m. PST

If you can get them ready by november I will definately be picking up a couple of packs of these at Crisis in Antwerp.
Now if you could just make some crocodillian centaurs to go with them, I will happily go broke at your booth there.

Kev134007 Jun 2012 11:11 a.m. PST

Thanks for the update Tony, summer sounds good to me, and the size will work perfectly too.

Cheers,

Kev

Thanks for the info Tony this is good news as i can now include these guys as elite close assault Battle armoured troops to go in my Bluemoon heavy Orion force, i think they will be a very good match i just hope they are nearer the 20mm tall as i want them to be bigger than the heavy Orion troops….

Nice. Now make a set of optional jump packs and Y-rack bomb throwers, and You'll definitely have my attention…evil grin

Not familiar with Brigade. Can somebody put up a link to follow? Just what I need another line of great minis. But then can you ever have to many great scifi minis?

Brigade is an absolutely top-notch conmpany to deal with. A vast array of products at great prices, helmed by Good People.

Yeah, and even when you make them, he doesn't buy them … and keeps asking for them.

<ahem> Your Corsairs while magnificent in technical execution are (1) too tall to be a proper 15mm scale *suit* (we had this conversation, Jon!evil grin), and (2) your other most recent 15mm powered armour while also magnificent have one (1) lousy backpack-mounted mortar/grenade launcher tube, but I'm not buying a single one from you until you (3) release the JTFB for which I have so patiently been waiting.evil grin

Back to your Corsairs, I will still buy some down the road on principle alone after a certain long-awaited release is done, however…they'll pass msuter for my 1/72 scale Starguard figures as ultra-heavy powered battle suits quite nicely…evil grin

Rest assured, despite all of my professional trials and academic travails, I will continue to throw my money at you from time to time. There's a real renaissance in 15mm sci-fi figures going on, and you, Khurasan Jon, are one of the main drivers IMHO, and anyone who has the 15mm sci-fi bug latched onto their jugular as yours truly does, is *not* going to fail to procure as many Khurasan products as they can sneak past their long suffering Significantly Better Halves, including yours truly.

Now get on yer game, Jon, and release the Jasmine Throne Foreign Battalion series so I can throw my money at you! Do you seriously think I'm going to stop at a single platoon?! Just tell me how many platoons make up a company in the JTFB so I can plan my financial future, OK?evil grin

The Mobile Infantry are not suped-up Star Wars Stormtroopers, suh!!!

They are world killing behemoths of steel, and the Encyclopedia of World Killing Behemoths of Steel specifies that such behemoths be at least 10 feet tall….

roebeast4510 Jun 2012 3:48 p.m. PST

In the new Japanese version they look to be pretty close to 10 feet.

BlackWidowPilot Fezian10 Jun 2012 4:44 p.m. PST

Oh, does the book say how tall the marauder armour is? evil grin

Nooo, but given Heinlein's prose and style of writing, if Rico had to learn how to walk around on powered armour stilts like your hapless occupants of those Corsair suits you're so proud of, Rico would have said so!evil grin

Just sayin'…evil grin

Leland R. Erickson

Failure1610 Jun 2012 6:28 p.m. PST

There is a section that implies marauder armor isn't exactly oversized compared to a human; when Rico falls into the hole during Operation Royalty (near the end) he was prepared to jump out of a hole that was only "ten or fifteen feet" deep (pp 195-6, 1987 Ace edition). A page later, they can fit inside a Bug tunnel--admittedly having to walk by shuffling their feet, though that conjures up images of people wearing suits, not small mecha units. However, they "could have trotted without armor faster" meaning the tunnel was tall but not 20 feet tall.

Of course, the Corsairs aren't precisely Heinlein's Mobile Infantry, not-so? Having said that, if they were in the 18-20mm tall range, I'd already have a platoon (~40 suits).
