I know, I know: the Spanish Republic never had Spitfires at hand… not even in their dreams!

However, I had been storing for too long that 1/144 scale plastic Spitfire from Revell, so that I decided to give it a try…

Nothing of a piece of art, I admit. But it has given to me the opportunity of training myself at this job --and that's enough to me.

It has been painted in a 3-colours scheme inspired in that of French aircraft, rather than the classical British 2-colours pattern. However, palette finally applied is far more adapted to Mediterranean theatre: earth brown, olive green and sand.

Decals come from a variety of sources: roundels are current Spanish ones with the central disk masked by a tiny home-made purple decal, numerals are those of a Polikarpov I-16 and tail devices are those of the 13th Fighters Squadron based at El Prat (Barcelona) --4-leaf shamrock on a black circle.

Oh, pilot is from Reviresco…

A couple of pictures else of it can be seen here: link

Considering that their average age today must be around 90, I wuld agree with that….

Nice "what-if" scheme.

Very cool looking model ! I built three dozen 1/72nd Spanish Civil War aircraft many years back. They hung from the ceiling, and made me happy every time I awoke in the morning.
