Have you played any games set on an icy/wintry battlefield?

GypsyComet14 Jan 2012 11:53 a.m. PST

Great, now you have me thinking about doing Ice OGRE again.

Angel Barracks14 Jan 2012 11:55 a.m. PST

No.

Dances with Clydesdales14 Jan 2012 12:03 p.m. PST

SF not yet.

WWII several.

Wargames Widows14 Jan 2012 12:33 p.m. PST

I like the idea of a wintry battlefield but husband is not so keen and our SF terrain tends to be barren and sandy.
I think I put him off cause I want snowmen and stuff.

"I think I put him off cause I want snowmen and stuff."

That could very well do it! :)

No but I am working on Ice World terrain. Someday I will present pictures when it is finished. I have 100+ snow covered trees of various sizes I picked up from Walmart in one of their post Christmas clearnace sales.

Given that planets probably exist with greater seasonal variation than Earth's due to wider/more eccentric orbits or greater axial tilts, and still be habitable, then tit's not a huge jump to expect 'iceworld' condition,s even if temporary.

I have played one or two small skirmishes between ScanFed winter troops and PanAfrican Union forces over resources ( using Irregular minis German ski troops for the ScanFed), with modified DS2 rules; It's a challenging environment when you need to roll for acquisition vs. glare at extended range. . .

21eRegt14 Jan 2012 1:26 p.m. PST

Yes, but only historicals.

Yes WWII, but planning an off world battle

RavenscraftCybernetics14 Jan 2012 1:38 p.m. PST

hoth

TamsinP14 Jan 2012 1:38 p.m. PST

Not so far, but a frozen waste may appear in the (possibly solo) campaign that's whirring round in my head at the moment.

Agent 1314 Jan 2012 1:40 p.m. PST

I think it would be awesome but haven't yet. Unless playing Hoth in the SW d20 miniature game counts.

Mooseworks814 Jan 2012 2:10 p.m. PST

yes and planning on an icestroid too.

David Manley14 Jan 2012 3:05 p.m. PST

yes, an Iron Cow game some years ago

Augustus14 Jan 2012 3:31 p.m. PST

There's a meteorite that hit the ground near here. I want to check it out. It won't take long.

Chris Palmer14 Jan 2012 4:07 p.m. PST

Yes I have. But I don't have as much terrain as I'd like for that battlefield yet… still a work in progress.

Yes, several. Fantasy, Pulp and retro sci-fi. I have a white felt and use the winter pieces from War Torn Worlds. I have also used that snow and ice set from Heroscape – the crystals and the ice hexes are great. The crystals from AT-43 are excellent as well.

A few 28mm WW2 Eastern front skirmish games on a white fleece blanket.not sci-fi yet though as they have been grimy urban battles.

Yep! Historicals, Plausibles, SciFi (esp. VSF on frozen worlds), and Fantasy.

Given up for good15 Jan 2012 6:40 a.m. PST

I'll just point you in the direction of link but have to say technically no for this one as the board is not finished grin

I have had a game or two of Tusk and the last one of these was on a great snow board.

NoLongerAMember15 Jan 2012 8:25 a.m. PST

@ Wargames Widow – he is just still sore for killing the asset in your other game.

If you want a snow/ice world, build it, 6mm terrain is easy…

Dave Jackson Supporting Member of TMP15 Jan 2012 3:52 p.m. PST

Yes, I have a 4 x 4 ice table I won in auction at my local GW store.

Der Krieg Geist15 Jan 2012 6:32 p.m. PST

I have not yet but plan to. I love the look of the computer game Battlefield 2142, and want to do a set up that looks like that. I bought several sets of the 28mm Winter Garbed Sci-Fi troopers that Wiff Waff put out awhile back, plus WG Factory Shock Troopers and WarMachine Khador stuff converted to much more Sci-Fi. Can't wait to try it all out, but I am not sure I want to do an earth like Winter board or an alien one.

brass116 Jan 2012 8:36 a.m. PST

Played a Mechwarrior game once featuring an airdrop onto a frozen ocean. Sometimes the ice was thick to absorb the impact.
