Some shots of the mechanoid army I'm constructing from my 'unpainted miniatures mountain'. Its based mainly on figures from Star Wars Risk and a batch of HOF figures bought cheap off ebay a few of years back. I'm pleased with the 'look' and impressed with the shear speed of the simple paint job.

I still need some heavy support and/or vehicles – preferably cheap in keeping with the rest of the project and also because I'm undecided about whether or not to keep or sell the completed project. It would also be nice to find some stuff that would bridge the two different aesthetics – the clearly Stars War look of the droids (though IMO they don't really scream Battle Droid)and the Terminator'esque HOF figures.

And some vehicles for my Colonial Marine force, which came off the back of a post I made looking for inspiration for motorising my HOF Levy…

More or less built out of the box, but the other's have an appointment with GZG and Old Crow bits.

You want Sci-fi looking vehicles like the Saladin and Saracen, look for a Stalwart…

Very Nice.

I have a bunch of those battledroids too.

I was planning to use these from RAFM

And the GZG spider drones

Both of them seemed to fit nicely with the "not quite SW" theme

B2 BATTLEDROIDS! Have huge bag of them as well as 15mm.co.uk Terminators. Great army you have! Like it!

Redroom10 Jan 2012 7:44 p.m. PST

thats a lot of mechs, nice

Where are people getting the large amounts of B2 droids anyways? I wouldn't mind a bag of them myself to use as new show centurions for Battlestar Galactica gaming.

Thanks to SirFjodin and others on TMP, I got my Clone Wars Risk Super Battledroids from eBid back in July:

I wonder if they can still be ordered separately from Hasbro:

I think I paid around GB£10 for my copy of Risk off ebay because I wanted the vehicles. But it also includes 80 battledroids (and 80 clone troopers). To me the pose of the Risk Battledroid's doesn't make them look so much like droids – the pose looks a little more Centurian'ish in some ways.

I thinking about using larger droids from the Star Wars CMG to put some heavier support in. Can anyone give me a rough high for the Telosian Tank Droid?

Hi ROUWetPatchBehindTheSofa

nice force, you can pimp the Saracen up a bit to make them scifi, check mine.

Gunner I saw your work when you first posted it, impressive, but basically I'm lazy – the extent of my conversions doesn't usually go beyond gluing on extra bits which someone else has made!

Can anyone help with assembling these:

A have three or so but I can be blow'ed if I can work out how to assemble the gun and arm

Hey Dan. Hasbro no longer has the Super Battledrids. You can only find them online (ala Ebay) or in a game.

Thanks,

John

That's what I was afraid of. I got mine but wish others didn't have to go through so much trouble to get their hands on a few.

Looking Good

No longer WIP…

Only about the second wargaming project I've ever finished to my satisfaction….. Though I'm still planning to add a couple more Telosian tank droids, some 6-legged tanks kit-bashed from Robogear kits and some 'infested' AFV's.

Cacique Caribe10 Jun 2012 2:19 p.m. PST

Awesome!!!

Got any close-ups of the finished Star Wars droids? I'd love to see how they came out after you repainted them.

Thanks,

Dan

Good work ROU, where is the big walking mech from?

ROUWetPatchBehindTheSofa11 Jun 2012 10:49 a.m. PST

Gunner,
It's a Telosian Tank Droid from the Force Unleashed expansion for the Star Wars miniatures game – I paid around GB£6 on ebay IIRC.

ROUWetPatchBehindTheSofa11 Jun 2012 2:20 p.m. PST

Close up for Dan –

I'm pleased with the look for such a quick & basic paint job – black u/c, 50:50 black & silver base coat, chestnut ink wash, and silver dry brush. I reckon a batch of around 30 took about 5 hours including basing.

Gunner Dunbar12 Jun 2012 12:03 a.m. PST

do they hold the paint well? what are thy made out of? vinyl? soft Plastic?

ROUWetPatchBehindTheSofa12 Jun 2012 11:29 a.m. PST

Hard'ish plastic and detail is pretty reasonable for board game pieces. Though there are some rather annoying mold lines, best seen on the 'hands', which due to the figures spindly nature (and large numbers) I left alone. No problems with painting standard acrylics fine, though I did wash them first, and the detail will take ink washes and high lighting. Their clone trooper counterparts on the other hand have given me no end of trouble the detail just doesn't seem quite sharp or pronounced enough.

republic of tolworth12 Jun 2012 1:35 p.m. PST

That's a good army.

And thanks. I just went up to the attic and dug out my old box of starwars risk and managed to get nearly half a pint (only recepticle I could find up there was a pint glass) of cheap troops…HUZZAH!

Cacique Caribe12 Jun 2012 2:45 p.m. PST

Oh, man! That pic got me salivating and everything. Nicely painted and highlighted.

AndI love the green eye. Very nice touch! Inspiring, in fact.

Dan
