On a scale of 1 (poor) to 10 (excellent), how would you rate the Stormraven vehicle model from Games Workshop?
|
streetline | 10 Jan 2012 10:18 a.m. PST |
Can we have an option for 0? Ugly looking thing, and not in a good way. |
PiersBrand | 10 Jan 2012 10:19 a.m. PST |
Muck – 0. Awful model
Especially considering how good the Valkyrie is. There is a nice aftermarket extension for the Stormraven that takes it from hideous to 'alright'. |
Frederick | 10 Jan 2012 10:25 a.m. PST |
I thought it looked sort of – stunted Like the runt of the litter at the Thunderhawk ranch |

0 but since that's not an option it's 1. I don't have the hate on for GW (OK, "Finecast" is worth the hate) so I do buy GW stuff from time to time. I will buy a decent looking model for my Space Marines from time to time but never that
thing. |
Farstar | 10 Jan 2012 10:36 a.m. PST |
When they release the rest of the Thunderhawk instead of just the nose, I'll consider it. |
TheCount | 10 Jan 2012 10:43 a.m. PST |
1. Designed by Homer Simpson? |
Angel Barracks | 10 Jan 2012 10:54 a.m. PST |
Looks like a nerf gun or summat. |
FreemanL | 10 Jan 2012 11:03 a.m. PST |
Like it. Would have bought three of them if I played Blood Angels or GW allowed other chapters to use them other than the Grey Knights. I still think it is a big mistake on their part for limiting them to just a few armies. As for aesthetics, it is functional without fanfare. Just like the Marines it carries, it doesn't have to look good, it just has to get the job done. Troops plus dread on time and on target and the firepower to suppress anything around the LZ. That is why I like it. Larry |
WarWizard | 10 Jan 2012 11:04 a.m. PST |
Does not look graceful, but I like it. I give it a 7. |
Roderick Robertson | 10 Jan 2012 11:09 a.m. PST |
I have no interest in GW vehicles (or SciFi vehicles in general) but this reminds me of a pug dog, with it's nose shoved in
I assume they have anti-gravity of some sort? Because that thing looks like it would the aerodynamic qualities of a brick. |
Greg B | 10 Jan 2012 11:10 a.m. PST |
3 – kind of a miss, but not the worst model I've seen from them. At least it doesn't seem to be covered in spikes

3 I was excited by the pics as it would make a great basis for a Thunderhawk, then I saw the price. FGW |
Space Monkey | 10 Jan 2012 11:50 a.m. PST |
It looks like a 'super-deformed' version of some vehicle I'd actually like the looks of. As it is, every time I'd look at it I'd think, "Damn, I wish that thing was a Thunderhawk!" |
15mm and 28mm Fanatik | 10 Jan 2012 11:52 a.m. PST |
An 8. It lacks the elegance of the Eldar but it looks right for a Space Marine vehicle. Very 'hard.' Like a flying tank, which was their intent, no doubt. |
striker8 | 10 Jan 2012 11:53 a.m. PST |
9, looks great for what it is and fits in with the other vehicles. But then again I'm not a GW hater or fan boy and like what I like and hate what I hate on the individual merits not becuase I'm told too! |
Angel Barracks | 10 Jan 2012 11:57 a.m. PST |
FWIW I am not a GW hater, I just don't like the ship very much. |
kallman | 10 Jan 2012 11:58 a.m. PST |
I give it a 3. My issue is that given the quality of the other kits that GW has converted from Forge World resin to plastics such as the Bane Blade, Valkyrie, Storm Blade, etc., why did they not just go ahead and make a Thunderhawk? They would have sold tons of the Thunderhawks even if the model had been at the $100.00 USD+ price tag. Instead they put this poor cousin out that looks like a flying brick with wings. |
Palewarrior | 10 Jan 2012 12:26 p.m. PST |
2, it looks like the design was based on a Lego model that the sculptors 5 year old made! |
Thomas Whitten | 10 Jan 2012 12:51 p.m. PST |
5 Designed by Homer
Homer's car looks a bit more aerodynamic. That said, I do own one. I also plan to get the Chapter House conversion kit for it. p.s. Now that I have kids, I think Homer's design is great. The separately enclosed stowage area for the kids is genius. |
ordinarybass | 10 Jan 2012 12:52 p.m. PST |
I'm torn. It's not a terrible model, but as others have said, it looks like a "Super Deformed" (The stubby dwarf versions of various anime charachters and mecha) version of a real Thunderhawk. Where it really breaks down is when compared to the Valkyrie, which is a far better looking/designed model at the same price point. Still, I'll probably add one to my BA collection some day. Maybe a 6 for rating. |
Blake Walker | 10 Jan 2012 1:33 p.m. PST |
Well, I bought two of them for my Blood Angel Space Marines
It's ugly. But it sort of grows on you. Guess I'd rate it a 4. Blake |
Wolfprophet | 10 Jan 2012 1:41 p.m. PST |
I hate it. It's awful. Stunted. No design aptitude is present. It's supposed to carry
what? 12 Marines. Stupid thing doesn't even look able to carry six normal men, let alone 12 Astartes. If it wasn't so poorly designed in the first place, chapterhouse couldn't make money with this conversion kit for it.
Looks a hell of a lot better with that, doesn't it? |
fitterpete | 10 Jan 2012 2:44 p.m. PST |
10 I like it, been thinking of getting a couple. The Valkyrie is better looking but I still like the stormraven. |
Space Monkey | 10 Jan 2012 3:27 p.m. PST |
Yep, the Chapterhouse mod definitely improves on it. |
Olaf the hairy | 10 Jan 2012 4:13 p.m. PST |
has anyone tried moving the wings and engines forward? |
richarDISNEY | 10 Jan 2012 4:28 p.m. PST |
Looks
like a brick. Pass.
|
Aksakal | 10 Jan 2012 5:28 p.m. PST |
Valkyrie is way better (have 2 for my Bloog Angels, before the real model came out). Continues the marine box school of design theory so while it might be ugly, its 'correct'. |
Chris B | 10 Jan 2012 6:05 p.m. PST |
Powerful like a gorilla, yet soft and yielding like a nerf ball. If I played an army that used 'em, I'd probably buy one. 7. |
Der Krieg Geist | 10 Jan 2012 7:04 p.m. PST |
I can't say I really care who says I can or can't use them with my SMs :) All in all I think it is a pretty cool kit, I will be converting and tweaking mine a bit to make them a little longer and add my own spin to them
.but I will have to say I like it. Give it a 9. The T-hawk is a ridiculous over sized monster that have little place on a gaming table, and although I really like the Valkyrie I bought, it is a bit to large for a gaming piece, for me. |
Scott Kursk | 10 Jan 2012 9:15 p.m. PST |
Looks: 1 Playability: 8.5 It's a Mat Ward vehicle designed by 12 year olds. |
GreatScot72 | 10 Jan 2012 11:58 p.m. PST |
I think it's appearance would be greatly improved by simply removing the tail section. Then it is more reminiscent of a Landspeeder with wings, rather than a failed, stunted Thunderhawk. |
WarpSpeed | 11 Jan 2012 12:35 p.m. PST |
Looks just like the old rhomboid land raider(the good one) ,with orky wings and engines thrown on. |
retzlaffmd | 11 Jan 2012 5:52 p.m. PST |
7. I like the design, it fits well with other SM vehicles, but it needs an actual clamp assembly for the dreadnought, rather than the current magnet-on-a-string system. <"What's that 'whee' sound, pilot?" " Oh, thats just Ancient Octavius, riding the Dreadnought mount
"> |
snurl1 | 16 Jun 2015 1:55 a.m. PST |
Chibi-Hawk. Its a model of something that does not exist, so its kind of hard to rate for accuracy. |
