I posted some before and after photos of a quick conversion job: a plastic toy hovertank was transformed into a sci-fi grav APC vehicle. It fits pretty well with my Pig Iron infantry troopers: link
And the finished product:

Very cool. Can anyone identify the toy it was made from? |

It's one of the hovertanks from Megabyte's forces in ReBoot. |

I love it! Firstly coz it was no doubt very cheap to buy, and secondly its the antithesis of GWs boring design concepts. A proper futuristic vehicle! Brilliant. |

This really reminds me of the grav tank featured in the original Warhammer 40K books which could be built from a shampoo bottle. Very cool nostalgia trip! |

The cost was about $1 USD, and yes I was drawn to the clean lines and futuristic design of the vehicle. Even under all that mud and dirt! When I was making it, I thought a lot about the infamous "deodorant stick grav tank" from the original Rogue Trader book. Here it is for those who haven't seen it before. Vintage 40k!

Very nice, I have to say. For a lower tech item, these were a couple of pounds each in a 'pound' shop and are hard to beat. Just remove the bottom of the skirt (it's a screw on item) to 'water line' it, rip out the electric motor and add some widgets (oil drums etc) from Tamiya, GZG and Old Crow and you're done.
And yes, the spray is photoshopped on John T hammers-slammers.com |

Very nice John. Were they originally military or civilian hovercraft and what scale are they? |
John Treadaway | 10 Jan 2012 3:47 p.m. PST |
They were originally 'pretend' military (sort of mini action figure stuff). They had a gun on the front cupolla, as I recall (big polythene thing) which has been replaced in the models I did with an Old Crow Turret. I've got them as generic military transport for my 28mm forces and the fit in really well. The oil drums and jerry cans are 1/48th Tamiya as a size reference. Here's a shot of them with other vehicles for size reference:
They must be about 180mm long or so (they're tucked away in a hard to get at case at the moment so I can't measure them!) John T |

Know anything about the brand? I'd be interesting in getting one or five

Um
I had this conversation via email about a year ago with a TMP chap and – for the life of me – I can't find the details but I do know that he did find them on eBay in the states and did the same conversions. Let me scratch my head and see if i can come up with more info too. John T Edit: Combat Force. Have a scan for them on eBay would be best, I guess This is a shot of their packaging for an APC and troops
but I'm trying to find a shot of the hovercraft. They do a nice riverene boat as well in 28mm compatable size that I've waterlined but not finished. |

Slightly OT I inadvertently acquired a couple of the Combat Force APC's as part of my 15mm super-heavy tank project. They were soft plastic and the detail/quality pretty horrid. I eventually binned them during a clear out. Don't touch IMO. In the UK the toy company Chad Valley used to do some interesting hard plastic tanks and wheeled AFV's, but I think they've discontinued that range. |

The Hovercraft I had were hard styrene or ABS with pretty decent moulding and detail. The only softer parts were the propeller on the rear (junked) and the big cuppola gun (replaced with an Old Crow item). The rivereve craft were similarly hard plastic (as I found when I took a razor saw to it to waterline it). I guess it depends on the model John T |
