Finished up some Bolt Actin SS and wanted to feature them in a medium to smallish sized skirmish game (rules to be determined). Do any of the commercial books feature medium to smallish scenarios with the SS and possibly a few supports? Do any of the Skirmish Campaigns books have appropriate scenarios? How about these? sgmm.biz/smpress.html |

"Do any of the Skirmish Campaigns books have appropriate scenarios?" The Epsom Campaign features SS almost exclusively (mainly 12th SS but also bits of 2nd, 9th & 10th SS). You'll need a lot of Shermans for some of the scenarios, but it is a great campaign booklet. |

Thanks Martin Rapier. Do you remember if any of the scenarios are more infantry intensive with just a few vehicles? |

There are a few vehicle light ones but almost all feature tanks of some sort. Given the density of armoured brigades and panzer divisions this is probably not surprising. |

As Martin mentioned. A number of the battles were against Canadian divisions. You can do a mix of infantry, with a few tanks for support, trying to take a hill, woodline, or small village (say Churchill's for infantry support), with a similar mix on the other side for defense (infantry and Panzer IV's, Panthers, or a Tiger I or two; infantry backed up by A/T guns would also work well). |

If you are doing your own scenarios then both Normandy and Market Garden abound with opportunities for SS skirmish type actions with a few/no vehicles. Half the available SS panzer divisions were stationed in the west. Less opportunities in Italy, only really 16th SS Div, a rather less than elite formation. The east and the balkans of course had the rest of the SS panzers, plus the 20+ Waffen-Grenadier, Cossack etc SS divisions. As Mako says, you don't need a ton of vehicles for Normandy games – a few Panzers IVs and Stugs, a couple of Panthers and Tigers, some light stuff (armoured cars, 250/9s, normal 251s, SP Flak etc) and guns (Pak 40 or similar) and for the Brits a troop of Churchills, a couple of troops of Shermans, some carriers, the odd half track, some recce vehicles and towed 6pdrs. That is more than enough to do all of the Skirmish Campaigns Epsom scenarios, some of them do have up to a reinforced platoon of infantry. |

have a look on the Battlefront scenarios page fire&fury.com , there is a full section on the 12th SS during Normandy. Should be something there for you to use. |

I am the author of Combat Action Command rules which have several SS Platoon sized scenarios. The basic rules come with one adapted from the movie Saving Private Ryan, you will need Tiger tanks and Marders as in the movie. There was also a recent article in Miniature Wargames magazine featuring everything you need to play Frost at Arnhem Bridge at the Platoon Level. British Para vs. SS Pz Gren, no tanks in the included scenario. Also, there is a free Demo Download on the CAC website of a Stalingrad Scenario, where you could substitute your SS for regular Pz Gren. The CAC website is combatactioncommand.com |
