Hi guys, as promised the Federal Heavy APC, built around the medium tank hull, has been designed. It is heavily armed, with heavy anti-material missiles, a rapid fire light plasma cannon, and the standard Federal gatling gun Close In Defence System. Like the medium tank, it can accept either a grav drive or the original tracked drive, which is what is illustrated here. It will start off as a 15mm kit but may be released in 6mm and 28mm scale as well. Coming in 2012, thanks for looking.

Looks cool – put me down for a platoon of these in 15mm as grav! |

28mm? Does that mean you will be doing figures to match? But it is a great looking model. |

Felonmarmer, this will not be available for quite a while. This is just a first-look. It has to be printed and cast first! I'd say maybe 2-3 months. |

now after you release this APC and new federal Tank ,i will have to find near future US troops to create US Near-future Task force for gruntz and TW:) |

That looks fantastic, however i would like to see the final model with the option of having seperate missile launchers that the buyer could choose to add or not. |

that thing looks pretty sweet. I like when all the detail looks like it has a purpose. Occasionally sculptors will add little bits and pieces without consideration for design and it looks a little weird. Who ever did this for you looks like they understand how to do solid detail work. |

If you look closely you'll notice the only real difference is that the ghost has no face shield. Pretty minor difference
By endwar it looks like most of them do have one. |

Jon's got those with his SEALs! This is another awesome score for Jon Think about a battlefield populated by the Fed medium tanks and APCs going toe to toe with the Red Banner tanks and Hedgehogs. Supplment the battleifled with some of Rebel's near future vehicles and you have Tomorrow's War covered. -Eli |

How tall is that thing? I was expecting something more along the lines of the Hedgehog. I will wait until I see the final casting before a final judgement is made. Was expecting something more along the lines of a Namer then a Bradley on steroids. |

sneak a line item into the budget. Hrm. I think I gotta agree with Doug Redshirt. I was expecting a Namer, not an overgrown Bradley. |

Well, as I already make an expediency heavy APC, I wasn't going to make another one. The Federal vehicle is much more heavily redesigned, as a western heavy APC might well be. |
Lion in the Stars | 09 Jan 2012 8:02 a.m. PST |
Fair enough. I guess I might end up using the Hedgehogs with my Federal medium tanks, then. Unless I can get the Federal mediums without turrets

Well spent the last couple of days looking at photos of Namers and merkava IVs and realized that Namers are heavily modified. They are as tall as a Merk and the hull is redesigned to hold infantry, so it is not a simple mod. Also it now appears that the IDF are going to mount a 30mm gun and some AT missiles in a remote turret and replace the machinegunner with a gunner. So basically something similiar to the hedgehog. Leaves me in a situation where I want a HIFV for my Fed infantry. I am using the Hedgehog for my Russians so cant use that for the Feds. No one really does modern armor in 15mm. Oh well just have to wait for the next major land war between major powers using armor to see if IFV or HIFV work better. I know which one I would rather ride in, one that stops a hmg round or one that has a chance to stop a 125mm round. |
khurasanminiatures | 10 Jan 2012 11:27 a.m. PST |
There are some countries out there now turning tanks into apcs -- the Russians are doing it to get some more life out of their older marks, and the Israelis are as well (though they seem to want to distinguish themselves from the Russians by claiming the Namer is a new vehicle, what they are doing is essentially similar to what the Russians are doing). The result in terms of appearance is what looks like a slightly heightened tank hull. Western armies have not done this yet but if they do, my sense is there will be a more thorough reworking of the vehicle than taking the turret off and raising the hull deck a bit. Federal vehicles are meant as cognates to western vehicles, so the heavy IFV is not just a federal version of the Hedgehog, it's meant to have a different feel as well as a different look. How people feel about the feel is a matter of personal opinion of course! One last thing -- this vehicle might not look like the hedgehog but it is designed to be at least as heavily armoured -- it's bigger to give the passengers and crew more room, especially as federal infantry wear substantial body armour. |
doug redshirt | 10 Jan 2012 12:30 p.m. PST |
I think I will just wait and see what it looks like after it is cast. Maybe a comparison pick with the new federal tank and an infantryman or two next to it would be nice. I just worry with a full size turret it reduces the infantry capacity. Almost wish for another remote type of turret to reduce height and increase internal space. I agree it needs a cannon about the size of a 25-30mm cannon and multiple ATGM. I have lots of your SciFi stuff Jon and you are my favorite producer of 15mm scifi. Plus you almost always produce vehicles and infantry that fit my image of Near Future military. In fact my next big purchase is probably going to be one of your powered armor sets that are coming out this year. They are awesome and have really captured my eye. |
Eli Arndt | 10 Jan 2012 1:25 p.m. PST |
Namer may be more heavily modified than the Russian vehicle. I know, like many of Israel's conversions of older vehicles, it's been re-engined, given new electronics, new NBC and in the case of the Namer a whole new entrance ramp in the rear. I know the BTRT has a lot going on with it too, but for the most part, the chassis is the same and I don't think they have built in a ramp or anything like the Namer. When it comes down to it, it's all in the wording and national egos. -Eli |
AVAMANGO | 10 Jan 2012 3:37 p.m. PST |
The main reason that i mentioned removing the side missile launchers from the turret earlier was to make the turret appear smaller, as mentioned they can be simply cast seperatly and added to the final model as the buyer sees fit

After thinking about it, I think these might be perfect for my US forces in the Second Iranian War. Everything is coming together for my Near Future US troops, thanks to Jon. Now what to use for Iranians in the Near Future? Maybe the Iranians have a deal with the Chinese, oil for arms. |

Do you have a first look at the grav version? Thanks |
ski2060 | 07 Feb 2012 10:43 a.m. PST |
I am just now looking to get into 15mm sci-fi, and your Fed infantry are at the top of my list for a starting force. I have been trying to decide what IFV/AFV to get my platoon, and these look to fit my vision perfectly. Like Brother Jim I'd love to know if these will have a Grav version, and any approximate release quarter so I can set aside my vehicle purchases until then. Thanks |
khurasanminiatures | 07 Feb 2012 11:20 a.m. PST |
Here you go, from the top post: Like the medium tank, it can accept either a grav drive or the original tracked drive, which is what is illustrated here. It will start off as a 15mm kit but may be released in 6mm and 28mm scale as well. Coming in 2012, thanks for looking. The grav final drive parts were illustrated in the thread on the Federal medium tank. Timing is hard to say. There's a major backlog at not one but two resin casters. I do have the print though and it's a beaut! Hopefully within two months? Just a guess though. |
