Has anyone compared old glory/old glory 15s/GHQ 10mm ACW models based on both quality and compatablitiy (regarding size/appearance)? I know deepfriedhappymice does it for 15mm range but I can't find 10mm comparisons.

Not side by side comparisons, but this website does have pics taken on a grid so one should be able to judge sizes. The website has not been updated in quite sometime, so doesn't have all 10mm ACW manufacturers (I think), but should help a bit:

There are some pictures on my old 10mmWorld.com site, and an article with some notes on various ranges.

This site has some very useful photos:

However … neither of those feature Old Glory. I'm due to receive my first bag of Old Glory figures in a few days, so I can update you then.

Having said that, GHQ figures are small 10mm figures, and the only lines that really match up with them are the Starfort range (from Langton) and the old Ten High range (from Baggage Train). GHQ sculpting is superb, Starfort matches fairly well, but Ten High are a bit crude. GHQ are also the most expensive, at 0.30 (Euro) cents per figure, and Starfort are 0.25.

From what I know (before I get the figures), the Old Glory figures are in the middle of the pack in terms of size, around the size of the old Perrin line (now Magister Militum). However, they are also tied with Pendraken for least expensive, at 0.14 cents per figure (Perrin are in the middle at 0.21). In my opinion these figures could probably be fielded in separate units on the same table as GHQ.

Pendraken, and the old (and currently unavailable) AIM line are on the large size, and would have a hard time fitting in with GHQ … I know, because the bulk of my army is GHQ (with Starfort additions), and I would love to take advantage of the cheap 0.14 cents per figure cost for Pendraken figures! :(

One thing to note, if you do go with GHQ. Avoid their limbers and get Starfort, which you can also go to for horse holders and fillers such as those extra Federal color bearers. Also avoid the hideously expensive (and a bit underwhelming) GHQ generals, and go for Starfort, Perrin, and Old Glory.

Hope that helps! I'll update things when I get my Old Glory figures (and maybe I'll actually snap some new photos for 10mmWorld).

Cheers,

Christopher

If you google "ACW 10mm", you can find some good comparison pictures of different ranges. Apparently Old Glory's best pairing is the Perrin/Magister Militum range. As I recall, the GQC was smaller and more slender while Pendraken was a tad bigger. For what its worth, I am a big fan of OG's ACW range. Very good sculpts (betetr than the AWI line). I'd say the marching figures have more detail and variation than the advancing figures. Also, if you are an OG Army member you can get them very cheap.

Here's the comparison I did. I have both Old Glory and GHQ in this comparison. I will be taking this to the next level in the near future.

Thanks everyone- that last post from general btsherman is absolutely perfect.

and that line up is the reason i never went 10mm for acw. with all the 15mm acw out there, why would anyone bother with all these "non matching" lines. i do very much like GHQ's 10mm acw, but i like variety, and its just not there.

Yes the 10mm figure selection is not all that great, but once you get them on the table using the same ground scale as 15mm they look perfect. That why I chose to use 10mm.

Thanks everyone- that last post from general btsherman is absolutely perfect.

I'm glad I could help.

Bryan – great lineup!

The scale variation is annoying, but to be honest there is a good selection in the "middle range" with Old Glory, Pendraken (currently resculpting their entire line), Magister Militum, and Minifigs (AIM – if they ever come back). GHQ is the outlier at the small end, and now Kallistra is the outlier at the large end. However, I have mixed AIM/Pendraken units that I field in separate formations from my main GHQ collection and I've never gotten a single comment on the difference.

ancientsgamer06 Jan 2012 10:56 a.m. PST

Actually, the variability in 15mm size figures is quite large too depending on how old of a line you are looking at… 15mm is really in two scales these days, which would include 18mm.
Older lines tend to be true 15mm. Newer lines have the scale creep on them. Go to deepfriedcrispymice.com to see the comparisons to fully understand what I mean…

john lacour06 Jan 2012 1:58 p.m. PST

well, i won't touch the blue moon acw because its every bit of that 18mm. but i can get by with the older old glory, stone mountain, musket, and battle hounors than going with 10mm. and when i went back to acw after 20 years, i really wanted to do it in 10mm. but like i said, the only line that i really like is the GHQ stuff. and the # of poses is low and thats a put off for me. i like a civil war battle line to look like a line of stuggling men, not a parade ground. there is no way those battle lines stayed in ordered ranks…

Prince Alberts Revenge06 Jan 2012 2:30 p.m. PST

If you look at the Old Glory ACW marching strips, there are 5 different figures on each casting (the confederates even more so), and there are several different types of figure strips in each bag. Additionally, there are quite a few poses on the skirmishing packs. If someone wants to do the ACW in 15mm, god bless…but there is plenty of figure variation with size-compatible ranges in the 10mm ACW world.

john lacour06 Jan 2012 4:15 p.m. PST

but the old glory 10mm stuff is on stirps. not easy to use with johnny reb, where you need to use a pipe cleaner to make causalties.

darthfozzywig06 Jan 2012 7:34 p.m. PST

But the OG line is perfect for F&F. :)

Prince Alberts Revenge06 Jan 2012 8:36 p.m. PST

Lacour, never played Johnny Reb. Not trying to convince you to play in 10mm, nor buy OG…just trying to give information requested by the original poster. Either way, happy gaming! :)

You can take a look at Pendraken, MM and Minifigs ACW miniatures at my blog:
zealandbayonets.blogspot.com
Simply choose the label "ACW".
Figures are shown in details.
All three lines are compatible, while Langton and GHQ are much smaller.

I said I would update this thread when I received my Old Glory figures – here you go:
