I'd like to organize a FoG campaign set in Westros, and I think the easiest and quickest way to do it would be to simply use some of the existing FoG medieval army lists. Medieval armies are fairly generic, but I'm interested in hearing a few suggestions on which historical armies you think correspond to the various Westros factions. Which would you use and which options would you take/leave out? I was thinking of using the Storm of Arrows lists for most of them except the Greyjoys and the Dothraki. Figured I'd post this in the Medieval forum too since I plan to use straight medieval combat rules without any magic or mythical creatures. |

None of the armies that I've read about so far strike me as WOTR English(bill and bow),they're more French,in that they put a lot of emphasis on horsed knights. I'll go the easy route and say Viking for the Greyjoy and Tatar for the Dothraki. I am only into the first part of book 3. |

I read the books a while ago so my memory may be a bit hazy , But AFAIR more mention is made of pikes than bow . So maybe they would lean more towards Scots Common but with more mounted ( for the Northern Kingdoms at least ). |

I hadnt intended to do any gaming with these books, else I would have taken notes. The Starks did have pikes in the diversionary battle of the Red Fork? While the Lannisters had mounted and spearmen, and of course,Tyrion's mountain auxiliaries(Shagga loves axes). There seemed to be alot of mounted at the Whispering Wood where Robb captured the Kingslayer. The Siege of Kings landing mentions a lot of Crossbow for the Lannisters, along with the Greek Fire.Spearmen for both sides, and Men-at-Arms along with the Knights, all on foot from what I can recall,as they had to cross the BlackWater via boats and the "ship-bridge",where Tyrion was wounded. Anyway,I really dig these books. |

Without meaning to hijack, you might take a look at this entry in the LPL on the Lead Adventure Forum: link I don't know much about Game of Thrones, so I can't help with the question, but I thought Franks use of Perry figures with some conversions were fantastic. |

The North definitively had Pike as the mainstay in the diversionary battle between Roose Bolton and Tywin Lannister. From the various material I have seen Westerosi tend to be mostly heavy knight oriented. Free Cities seem to be more hellensitic with Westeroshi mercenary knights, Infantry phalanxes (typically slaves for Volantis) or infantry armed for the melee. Or elephants (the Golden Company for example) The armies of the Ghis cities (expect New Ghis) are almost completely reliant on Unsullied before Astapor was taken by Daenerys. Now there armies are mostly slave phalanxes augmented by mercenary forces and elephants. New Ghis is explicitly noted as having infantry phalanxes (legions but armed as unsullied) made up of citizens doing there 3 year term of service (ala Ancient Athens) Dortharki are all Calvary with no infantry

Nice work. 28mm is more my scale, and I love Perry figures. Normally, I might be tempted to do the campaign in that scale, but I think the other players want to stick with 15mm for this. Oh well

Something I've thought about as well, but nailing down exact counterparts can be surprisingly difficult. I'd agree that most of the armies resemble the French or maybe the German lists from Storm of Arrows. I'll take a closer look tomorrow and think on it some more. While not dealing directly with military organization there is a collection of interesting notes here: link -Will |

Im currently running a Game of Thrones Warmaster medieval campaign, we have gone (roughly) along the following lines when creating our army lists and appearance of our troops: Iron Islands – Danes/Vikings Wildlings – Celts Dorne – Almohad/Hispanic All other Westerosi: Western European, France seems more apt for the Reach, and early medieval Scots seem to suit the North, we have allowed the Reach more knights and the Lannisters more cutting edge tech ie crossbows, and better armour in general than the North |

I think the suggestions from The Red Baron definitely work. -Will |

I just read the chapter where Danaerys inspects the Unsullied. No morale checks needed, and apart from the fact that they might freeze to death, sound like the perfect troops to fight the Wights of the North. |

You can find my Warmaster lists here: link Not sure how much help they would be for FOG having never played or any idea of the rules |
