If another country other the your county of origin was attacked, would you fight for them?

For example

US citizen airmen fighting in the Battle of Britain, or with the Flying Tigers in China.

Dynaman878903 Jan 2012 12:59 p.m. PST

No

elsyrsyn03 Jan 2012 1:03 p.m. PST

If I felt strongly enough about the cause, sure.

Doug

Eclectic Wave03 Jan 2012 1:03 p.m. PST

Depends. I might if I thought the reasons for fighting were important enough.

Lentulus03 Jan 2012 1:06 p.m. PST

Depends.

I met some guys who fought in the Spanish Civil War – they just didn't think fascism was a good idea; also volunteered for WWII and didn't seem to regret any of it.

epturner03 Jan 2012 1:25 p.m. PST

I tried to apply to RMC Canada for college, does that count?

Eric

mad monkey 103 Jan 2012 1:33 p.m. PST

Depends.
On who, why, and how crappy my present job is.

KTravlos03 Jan 2012 1:38 p.m. PST

Technically and legally I could be required to fight for both Greece and the US. If called I would probably serve either. But would not volunteer.

Not sure if I would fight for one against the otehr though. Depends on the why the war happened.

richarDISNEY03 Jan 2012 2:16 p.m. PST

Sure. But its gotta be for a darn good reason.
Or lots of cash, beer and hookers.
beer

John D Salt03 Jan 2012 2:23 p.m. PST

Hell, yes. In fact I thought that our country's NATO commitment meant that that was exactly what I had signed up to do, in the unlikely event of the TA of the 1970s being mobilised.

All the best,

John.

vojvoda03 Jan 2012 2:29 p.m. PST

I have worked for some countries as a security consultant so I guess yes.

Cardinal Hawkwood03 Jan 2012 2:43 p.m. PST

I am hardly likely to fight for me own country , let alone someone else..though the Andorrans attract me somewhat..

olicana03 Jan 2012 2:44 p.m. PST

Bring it on……….

Cincinnatus03 Jan 2012 2:52 p.m. PST

Yes I would and technically I might have already as part of a NATO operation.

Greylegion03 Jan 2012 3:10 p.m. PST

Personally, probably not.

If my country sent troops and I could go, then probably, yes. I did consider the FFL once, shortly after I got out of the army.

80-deuce, All The WAY!

John the Confused03 Jan 2012 3:25 p.m. PST

Possibly, but any country that would consider me as an military asset (fifty five and overweight) must be in a really desperate situation.

Chris Rance03 Jan 2012 4:05 p.m. PST

Yes. I'd fight to defend the country I live in in much the same way as the one I am from. But it all depends on why. I am no believer in "My country right or wrong". I have a problem with the "wrong" bit of it …

Frederick Supporting Member of TMP03 Jan 2012 5:12 p.m. PST

Sure – but only if my country wanted me to!

Klebert L Hall03 Jan 2012 5:19 p.m. PST

Possibly.
Nobody much would want me these days.
-Kle.

Steve6403 Jan 2012 5:47 p.m. PST

Depends on the uniform of the said country.

Do we get plumes, fancy epaulettes and extra lace on the headgear ? If so, I would consider.

Cardinal Ximenez03 Jan 2012 6:09 p.m. PST

Depends on the enemy.

BrotherSevej03 Jan 2012 6:33 p.m. PST

Actually I'm more probable fighting for another country as long as I agree with the reason than fighting for my own country for any reasons.

galvinm03 Jan 2012 6:34 p.m. PST

If they are fighting for something I believe in. Yes.

Frankss03 Jan 2012 7:15 p.m. PST

Yes

Mister X03 Jan 2012 8:21 p.m. PST

No.

Irish Marine03 Jan 2012 9:05 p.m. PST

No, only because you lose your citizenship fighting for another country.

Ron W DuBray03 Jan 2012 9:12 p.m. PST

If they pay well but Im a bit to old..

Lee Brilleaux Fezian03 Jan 2012 10:19 p.m. PST

When Botswana calls me --

I'll let the answering machine pick up.

SECURITY MINISTER CRITTER03 Jan 2012 11:36 p.m. PST

I would not be adverse to it.
I do however object to getting into a land war in Bongolesia!

goragrad04 Jan 2012 12:30 a.m. PST

If the Vatican calls for volunteers….

Sparker04 Jan 2012 12:52 a.m. PST

I'd fight for Australia, 'cos its where my family and friends live…

And I think I'd fight for France too, because its the cradle of civilisation, of humanity, of democracy…

Thats if any future war is likely to require 40 something retired sailors – desperate straits, I'd say!

Although a billet in the Royal Women's Auxiliary Balloon Corps might be just the ticket…..'Its a man's life in the Women's Ballon Corps!'

Femeng204 Jan 2012 5:29 a.m. PST

I'm eligible to fight for Israel if war breaks out while I'm there.

Gennorm04 Jan 2012 7:30 a.m. PST

Maybe, depends who it is and who's the enemy.

I was in France in I think 82 it was a legion recruiting station and the rep asked me if I wanted to sign up. I told him I was already in the Army and he said it did not matter!

In the '70s, I was offered a job in a country which has since managed to go its own way without my services. The pay was good, I was just out of the army and discovering that Vietnam vets ranked pretty low on everybody's list of potential party guests, and I almost took it. Then the fortunes of people I would have been working for took a sudden and widely-publicized downturn so I decided against it.

Now I'm about 40 years too old to be an international adventurer but if the money was right, I'd still think about it.

I joined the Marines during the first gulf war to kick iraq out of kuwait then again I was gonna join anyway.

vojvoda04 Jan 2012 4:15 p.m. PST

How much they paid would be the question.

Grizzlymc06 Jan 2012 5:49 p.m. PST

Allowing for my military uselesness, I would if the reasonswere right.

wrgmr107 Jan 2012 9:58 p.m. PST

Only for the right reasons and if they had a decent military.
