I never leave my bases plain black coz it always looks like an unfinished model to me, but I've been looking at the transparent bases I have on the Final Fantasy vinyl figs I bought a few years back and started thinking
. The advantage of a transparent base is that it never looks out of place on the battlefield/space station/rocky path, though I guess it could be ruined by excessive superglue. What do my pals out there think? |

I was planning on cutting bases out of the covers of old CD cases. & then blu-tac the figures to the bases. This was to allow for already regularly singlely-based figures to be used in different element-based games. |

I've seen it done before, not my cup of tea. The problem is that it's not invisible--you can see the edges of the base, and of course the shiny surface. Too me, it looks more artificial than a normal base, even one that doesn't exactly match the tabletop. You also miss the chance to do a detailed base, which adds a lot to the look of a figure, by putting the mini in an appealing, realistic setting. |

Thanks for the advice. I was aobut to ask this question too. However, I need them for some 28mm Fantasy Ice Hockey players to be used with the "Cross Check" rules. I thought the clear plastic bases would be perfect for the 'ice' effect since the rink I'm building will be a sheet of plexi-glass to cover a printed sheet showing the rink with logos and etc. -David G. |

I received a few clear slottabases with my last order from Black Hat
I'm not sure why. They're not depicted on the figures I ordered, and don't appear to be for sale separately on the website. |

Sounds perfect for hockey players. |

This topic has come up before (pointing this out because the previous thread had some cool ideas, as I recall, so it might be worth searching for). I cast clear bases for some of my figures. I generally like to use a clear cast epoxy. To attach the figure I either simply use more clear epoxy to glue it down, or pin and glue it into position. I have a few Pulp/Retro Sci-fi figures done this way, as well as my slowly growing Wargods Wendigo force
the Wendigo are on custom ice bases, tinted clear epoxy. |

ITs a neat idea, but beware superglues will 'haze' the clear base, so it looks like the figs are walking through mist all the time

Does Gamezone still use clear bases? |

RicharDisney, I know just what you mean. I have a feeling the topic came up recently, but here's the only thing I found: TMP link Dan |

I heard once that CSI folk use superglue to get fingerprints off things sometimes, the glue vapour makes the ridges visible. I'd prefer a clear shiny base to one that doesn't go with the terrain I'm using, a nice industrial base would look total pants in a forest. |

i use clear bingo chips they come in differant colors. I use red for the zombies green for the survivers and yellow for the people that may or may not be the good guys. the ones i use are the same size as U.S. pennies. I got mine from Great Hall games 250 chips for 5 bucks thats 2 cents a base |

We have got some clear bases in stock now, aprox 2mm thick, designed for ships. I use a rather nice seascape playing mat and can't paint the bases as well as the mat looks so see through bases work much better. We can get any size of base done in clear perpex so if you have a specific size request please let me know and I can find out a cost. info@magistermilitum.com magistermilitum.com Cheers, Richard |

I did clear bases for my ships link and had no issues with the two part glue I used. I only added a small drop to the base of the figure and let it dry for a few seconds before attaching it to the base. |

Wehrmacht, The Ice Hockey game, "Cross Check" is available for download online. Here: link The miniatures that I bought were available from Brigade Games. I picked up all three teams. link I also saw a post about Impact Miniatures maybe doing some Ice Hockey players for 2012? They have one already and some sticks for conversions. link There are also some 1:50 Diecast metal and plastic Zamboni's on ebay pretty inexpensively. (as an example and not an endorsement): auction I picked up a few at a flea market for about $2 USD each. I plan on modifying and repainting some into star players/vehicles and others as window/terrain dressing for the teams and rink. |
