Do you use 6mm scale exclusively for your wargames?

(Excluding, of course, periods/genres for which 6mm would be ill-suited.)

* yes, exclusively
* no, but 6mm is my primary scale
* no, but I use some 6mm
* I don't use any 6mm
* not a wargamer

Which periods/genres would they be then?

I'm a * no, but I use some 6mm

Bob in Edmonton30 Dec 2011 3:40 p.m. PST

No but I use some 6mm.

I used to game exclusively in 6mm but was lured away by dark age 28mm plastics and have found myself drawn to larger scales as my eyesight has deteriorated.

MajorB30 Dec 2011 3:42 p.m. PST

Which periods/genres would they be then?

Indeed so.
Do tell.

EDIT:
Thinking about it, space fleet and naval combat could be tricky..

sumerandakkad30 Dec 2011 3:56 p.m. PST

No but 6mm is my primary scale

Dave Crowell30 Dec 2011 4:04 p.m. PST

I play in too many scales. The scale I play in least is 28mm. 6mm is third after 15mm and 40mm (one period but a lot of gaming), then comes 3mm.

I am finding painting 6mm to be less enjoyable these days.

I do 6mm, 10mm, 15mm, and 28mm…..

jay13830 Dec 2011 4:06 p.m. PST

No to small 28mm all the way.

John Leahy Sponsoring Member of TMP30 Dec 2011 4:13 p.m. PST

No, but I do game in 6mm, 3mm, 10mm, 15mm, 20mm, 25mm, 28mm, 54mm and so on.

Thanks,

John

I don't use any 6mm. Robert

GoneNow30 Dec 2011 4:37 p.m. PST

* no, but I use some 6mm

I am finding that a lot of the 6mm I had been doing slowly changing to 3mm. Also a lot of the larger skirmish stuff has been switching to single based 6mm.

Farstar30 Dec 2011 5:09 p.m. PST

* no, but I use some 6mm

Dale Hurtt30 Dec 2011 5:14 p.m. PST

* no, but I use some 6mm

I recently declared that I wanted to move to 6mm for all of my "mass" battles, but then I look at my 15mm FOW collection, my 15mm DBA Ancients collection, and my even larger 15mm AWI collection, and I find it hard to let go.

I also declared to go to 42mm for my skirmish games, but I look at my excess, singly-based 15mm AWI collection, my 28mm WW II collection, and my 28mm fantasy/space fantasy collection and find it hard to let go.

The problem, of course, is that I swore I would never sell a painted figure, ever again. At this point you might be wondering if I even have any 6mm… :^)

And I am adding more…

Dynaman878930 Dec 2011 5:50 p.m. PST

15mm is my primary scale, but 6mm is second.

raylev330 Dec 2011 5:59 p.m. PST

* no, but I use some 6mm WW2.

Mooseworks830 Dec 2011 5:59 p.m. PST

* no, but I use some 6mm

Still game with 15mm and 28mm but for modern and sci-fi I'm scaling down to 6mm. Thinking hard about selling my 15/28 stuff to buy more 6mm. Might do the same with other periods if the minis are right. Hard to see letting go of 15mm fantasy though, it's got me!

I collect 6mm to 54mm.

Pictors Studio30 Dec 2011 5:59 p.m. PST

I do some 6mm, all sci-fi at this point.

Micman Supporting Member of TMP30 Dec 2011 7:34 p.m. PST

I have WWII, modern and sci-fi in 6mm. At one point it was my primary scale. Currently I have more 6mm painted than any other scale. But I expect that to change with 15mm being my scale of choice.

Stern Rake Studio30 Dec 2011 9:27 p.m. PST

No, but 6mm is my primary scale, specifically for large-scale actions. I use 28mm for RPGs and skirmish games.

Greg G131 Dec 2011 6:38 a.m. PST

* yes,exclusively.
However this more due to space in my flat, and the availability of scenery, and models.

Dr Mathias Fezian31 Dec 2011 7:10 a.m. PST

(Excluding, of course, periods/genres for which 6mm would be ill-suited.)

Which periods/genres would they be then?

Would 'space corridor' and 'dungeoon crawl' games (Space Hulk being a prime example) fall into this category? I suppose one could do it in 6mm… but why?

*no, I don't have any 6mm.

GoneNow31 Dec 2011 8:00 a.m. PST

Back in high school we played more then one game of Space Hulk using non-based Epic figures and the little map "layout" tokens.
So Space Corridor and Dungeon Crawls are not one of the "ill-suited genres".
But I think fleet level naval and spaceship games would probably be some of the ill-suited types.

Martin Rapier31 Dec 2011 9:14 a.m. PST

"naval combat could be tricky"

We used to use 1/300th scale stuff as land support for our 1/600th scale naval battles.

Anyway, I game in many scales from 2mm to 54mm, but 6mm is one of my more popular ones (Napoleonics, Colonial, WW1, WW2 and Moderns).

cfielitz31 Dec 2011 9:32 a.m. PST

*no, but 6mm is my primary scale

Ron W DuBray31 Dec 2011 3:59 p.m. PST

nope but I have enough to play some WWII battles.

Would 'space corridor' and 'dungeoon crawl' games (Space Hulk being a prime example) fall into this category? I suppose one could do it in 6mm… but why?

Why not?

Grand Duke Natokina01 Jan 2012 10:15 a.m. PST

I do not use them, and stay strictly in the 20 to 25 mm range.

Paul S02 Jan 2012 3:22 a.m. PST

* no, but 6mm is my primary scale (WWII, Nap, Sci Fi)
Also have 15mm WWII, Nap fleet in 1:2400 & dystopian. so for me generally smaller better (but mainly for storage reasons plus I love big scale battles.

fogsoldiers02 Jan 2012 4:48 a.m. PST

* no but I use 6mm.

We use 6mm for Ancients, Italian Risorgimento, Napoleonics, ACW.

Happy New Year to All.

HistoryPhD08 Jan 2012 5:39 p.m. PST

Yes, exclusively (except for WWII naval, which obviously would present the odd size problem in 6mm)

TamsinP11 Jan 2012 3:33 p.m. PST

No, but will be using 6mm for some periods/rules

Elenderil29 Mar 2012 11:58 a.m. PST

It's my primary scale followed by 2mm and25mm. Larger the action the more tempting small scales become.

Grizzlymc29 Mar 2012 3:33 p.m. PST

Yes

Hey AB, funny you should say that, I have always thought that it would be fun to do boarding 1:1 in naval wargaming with 6mm figs and stylised foam ships.

fatbag2608 Apr 2012 6:11 p.m. PST

I use 6mm sometimes, but will probably jump ship from 28 to 6

yes exclusively

Building Napoleonics
Have (and will get to at some point) Ancients, ECW, 7YW, FPW, Modern

MadDrMark13 Apr 2012 5:29 a.m. PST

Used to do a lot of 6mm, but I have given it up in favor of 10mm. Easier on my eyes to paint and play with.

Altius13 Apr 2012 7:54 a.m. PST

Not exclusively.
