Does anyone remember a rules set called Jagdpanzer? It was around in the 80s. It's supposed to be re-released again soon with new inf. combat rules and more. |

Yes. If I recall correctly, the rules were in a foreign language. Looked like a promising set though. Hopefully, they'll be in English too, this time around. |

I have copies of a basic and advanced set of rules called, IIRC, Jagdpanther-I'll check my copies tonight to be sure that's the name. Anyway, the rules I have were written by Kevin Cabai from Chicago, and I got my copies from Marty Fenelon who gamed with Kevin back then. I think Marty may be working with Kevin on the updated version. Dennis |

we played the crap out of jagdpanzer back in the 80's. those were the days! what bugged the hell out of me was, in the notes in the back, it said they were going to release a modern set called mbt to follow on jagdpanzer. never happened. i was very disappointed when the set never came out. |
warhawkwind | 22 Dec 2011 2:35 p.m. PST |
Yes,Jagdpanzer was written by keven Cabai. It came in a silver colored box. |

Yes, and I've still got my copy! Played 'em a lot back in the day. |

I played them a fair amount. One of the best set of bottom up design philosophy sets I've seen. |

It could be the MBT that was released by Avalon Hill. Great game and we've used it for miniatures rules as well. They also did an adaptation for the Arab-Israeli Wars called IDF. |

sundance, i don't think the avalon hill game was the follow up to jagdpanzer. like it said in the notes, the stats for the vehicles were done and it was ready for publishing. never happened. but as to the jagdpanzer rules, i quite like them. i still have my copy, and i will buy the new game. |

Yes, I played this some 20 years ago and would be interested in an updated version. Recall the infantry was easy to kill, especially with tank machine guns, even when they were in a trench. Also don't recall any modifiers reflecting the disadvantages of the French single man turrets. If you played a France 1940 scenario, you wanted to be the French armor commander. I would have sold this by now on eBay except my name is written using a Sharpie on every single chart and clear acetate overlay. |

Oops, just checked my copy (the Greenfield hobby version) and you're right, it's Jadgpanzer, not Jadgpanther as I said in my previous post. Dennis |

I still have mine and played quite a bit in the early 80's. My only criticism was that infantry was not really effective. However, the armour rules were quite fun as I remember. I switched to Command Decision 1 when that came out. |

These rules are scheduled to be re-released early in 2012. The revision process has been a very lengthy affair (as they often are). All infantry combat has been given a new set of mechanics. The armor combat has been left mostly unchanged. I am the designer for the new infantry rules. The new combat system for infantry uses a straight-forward firepower system with differing values based upon troop type and range bands. Ranged combat results in infantry being either fine, suppressed, or eliminated. Suppression is by far the most common result unless you manage to catch in the open or on the move. The artillery system has been left mostly unchanged. I have also been working on Arab-Israeli data for the october war. We have been conductiing play-testing with a group from California and here in the midwest at a number of conventions in Iowa and Illinois. There is a splash page up at jagdpanzer.com Check it out. Cheers! -Trent |

what about the modern version(MBT)? can you give me an idea about when that will be playtested or whatnot? i love the game. i'd love to playtest the modern
|

I know that we don't have any plans for modern rules. Though many of the mechanics would adapt to modern easily enough. I have also been playing around with some sci-fi stuff. I have also added stats and rules for vietnam, including incorporating helicopters. If interested in this stuff, I can be contacted at tpburg (at) msn dot com. |

I look forward to the 2nd edition of these rules.. Jagpanzer were our rules of choice (1991-2002) and we only drifted away from them when we just couldn't seem to reconcile the "feel" of the infantry portion of the game. The combat results for infantry were just too deadly and they couldn't really be employed historically (in our opinion). The armor rules, however, were great (again, in our opinion)and had a terrific "feel"! I will definitely be looking for these! D |

The new Inf. rules really work now. Suppressions are the usual result. You'll have to fire quite a few rounds at them to eliminate one thats in cover.Platoons are much more likely to leave the table as a result of poor morale rather than being completely destroyed. |

Well I'll be danged. I STILL play Jagdpanzer, still using the set I bought back in 1987. Although the infantry section could be a bit off, we always enjoyed the flow of the system. For me the sell was the one to one scale for the armor, I could just never get into Command Descion, and systems like "Flames of War" have no appeal to me ( granted I have not actually played it, so perhaps I am being unfair!) This to me is exciting news, I look forward to the second edtion. Lee |

I always liked the A/B,B/A turn sequence. It gets away from the You-Go-I-Go thing that alot of games use. The new rules can be played either way. |

Hey warhawkwind, any ideas on how to purchase the 2nd edition rules? I see that they have been released in some form or fashion.. |

Go to the " Jagdpanzer.com " website. It may be down for repairs right now though as the rulesbook is supposed to be coming out very soon now. I think
But check the website. |

There is another thread discussing Jagdpanzer 2nd Edition. Below is the OP. Yes, finally the 2nd edition is coming out. It will be available for Little Wars in St. Charles, IL on 27 April, 2012. Anyone wanting to order a copy can email me at kcabai@aol.com This is my confusion
. When I go to the website I don't see any announcement of the 2nd edition. |

I have played these rules several times. I would say they are probably my 2nd favorite ruleset after ODGW's Mein Panzer. They are 1-to-1 unit scale for tanks, guns and vehicles. They are reasonably fast playing, and do a reasonable job of combined arms combat (games don't screech to a stop the moment infantry gets into the fight) which makes them suitable for multi-company sized actions. That puts them right in my target for what I want in rules. They provide an interesting interpretation of "to kill", which takes anti-tank gunfire beyond the "all penetrations destroy all tanks" model of some rules. And I find the morale rules to be usable -- something I often dislike in other rules.
I am inserting pic from a game I played a few years ago using the JP2 rules. Not meaning to make this an AAR thread, but only intending to show the level of forces and the degree of maneuver that we were able to play using these rules. There was infantry in this game as well, though I did not include a summary of the infantry's fight on this post-game summary image. I ran a battalion of two companies of T-34s with a tank rider SMG company attached, and a battery of SU-85s in support. I also had off-board artillery and an on-board FO. My opponent had Marders, StuGs, enough riflemen and mortars to occupy one small part of the table, and some lone resources (a PAK gun, a single Tiger, and one of the lovely new generation H&R PanzerJagers).
One close-up of the action. T-34s caught StuGs in flank on a road, chased the survivors into cover among the buildings, inadvertently also turned the flank of Marders who were beating up SU-85s on the other side of the table, and now as the mortars try to lay down some smoke to cover the survivors, the desantniks have jumped off to mop up the town. It was a very dynamic game. Lots of maneuver, lots of variety of forces, lots of action, and all accomplished to a conclusion in one game day (admittedly many hours of one day). Pretty good rules in my book. -Mark (aka: Mk 1) |
