Here is a photo of the new Fife & Drum range of 1/56 scale (approximately 30mm) AWI British Guards for the American Revolution War. There are 8 different poses including Marching (officer, drummer, NCO and rank & file for the centre companies), Marching Flank Companies (NCO and ranker), and two skirmishing centre company figures.

Both of the flank companies wear the same uniform, the only difference being the inscription on the front plate of their cap: a grenade for grenadiers and the initials "LI" for the light infantry.

We also have American militia (8 poses) and Continentals in cocked hats (12 poses), as well as British Light Infantry skirmishing (8 poses). In the pipeline are the British line infantry and British grenadiers in bearskins, currently on the work bench of the talented sculptor, Richard Ansell.

Der Alte:

Wonderful stuff as usual. You keep dragging the imagination away from current projects with these postings.

Sufficient the 2nd quarter of 2012, I must be patient…

Cheers old fart

I know you sell your miniatures singly, but have you also considered selling units? For those of us thinking about getting into the period, it would make it easier to get started. The photos of the units on your blog get me really excited, but then I have to figure out how many of each figure I need to get the same configuration.

Where'd you get the trees in the backround?

Bede: The trees were made by Herb Gundt (HG Walls) and I really like them because their size makes them look like real trees, as opposed to some of the commercial brands available. I forget what Herb charged me for them, but I thought that the prices were very reasonable.

Hydra: I would consider selling units but I don't have a feel for what the size should be at this point. Being a part of the commercial side of the hobby is a new experience for me, so there will be some teething pains for awhile as I move up the learning curve.

For example, one person might consider 12 figures a "unit" while another fellow would be looking at 24 or 30 figures as a "unit". I suppose that I could organize "units" around the British Grenadier set of rules, which seem to be very popular.

I set up a "recipe" on the Fife & Drum blog indicating how many of each stock number was included in the unit pictured. I could do the same for you on request.

I figured that most gamers would want to buy single figures so that they could choose the figures that they want, rather than having it decided for them in small packs of 4 to 6 figures.

*************************

I base my figures for my own set of rules, using a 20mm frontage per figure so most of my bases are 60mm x 40mm deep. I don't have a particular ground scale in mind, but the spacing seems right to my eye so that is what I use.

In general, I use 30 figure units for the British and Americans. Some American units can also be 24/20/18/12 as well. Some of the British elite battalions such as converged grenadiers, lights and guards could be 40 to 50 figures at a 1:10 ratio.

In my rules, you get one D6 for every 4 figures firing or in melee, so the number of figures doesn't matter, so long as all units have a similar frontage to keep things consistent.

I'm kind of targeting the middle of 2012 as the official rollout or introduction of the range along with a web site, logo etc. to make ordering easier. For now, sending me an e-mail works OK. By June, (touch wood), I should have most of the basics (infantry, command, artillery) for both armies into production with dragoons coming in the later part of the year.

I plan on being at the SYW Assn convention in March 2012 as a dealer as well as a game judge. I'm frantically painting AWI figures for both armies so that I can field 3 commands per side. I'll probably have to use some of my Minden Prussians from the SYW as AWI Hessians, given the press for painting time.
