…if anybody ever started.

I picked up a bunch of the counter sets at a convention back in 1980 or so. They stayed in the closet for 20 years before I sold them to a buddy. I just saw some on eBay and it made me a bit nostalgic.

Still use the GDW counters (or similar homemade counters). Only used the original rules without modification for a few years.

Yes, we have nearly all sets.

Only hiccup was the simultaneous movement, and no Command and Control rules…..none. However, the game mechanics worked really well for fire and melee.

My dad and I played this over a couple Christmas' but switched to Grande Armee. Fun set and lots of good memories around the table with my dad.

So, I am a softie for S7, mainly nostalgic like yourself.

With today's graphics I'm surprised somebody hasn't tried it since. The only thing I can think that resembles it are the counters that come in Napoleon's Battles and this new Civil War boardgame (I don't have it, but it seems interesting).

I still have all the original sets boxed up somewhere. The group I was in used to play it alot back in the late 70s early 80s. Then moved onto Napoleons Battles.

Doug, would you have interest in parting with them?

Hi

This forum page at BoardgameGeek has a posting that links to a PDF of the rules and a Quatre Bras scenario …

No, but I still play GDW's "Fire and Steel" which is the same as the System 7 rules, but played with 15mm miniatures. I was wondering if anybody else still use these rules?

I have a bunch of System 7 stored here from my much younger days. I do not use them anymore and doubt if I ever will again. I would be willing to part with them, and I think I have all of the sets in my collection.

I remember picking some of these up in the late 70's. I never really played them as I was still very new to gaming and hadn't yet "cut my teeth" as it were. It was a steep learning curve for me at the time.

I REALLY wish I had held on to them. Not really sure how they disappeared, but alas they are long gone. I'd love to start anew, if only they weren't so hard to find.

PS I just downloaded the Quatre Bras set, and I'm eager to give it another try – 30+ years later!

reggie88,

While I have not played Fire and Steel in ages, I really liked them and played them into the early 80s. When I started getting back in to Napoleonics (in 28mm), I revisited them thinking I could modify them. But then I discovered Republic and Empire and am now hooked.

Don't forget the corresponding miniatures rules Fire & Steel. Never played them, but Greg Novak's army list book is a treasure trove for anyone making a 1:20 army (e.g. for General de Brigade).
