I played in one of Pat Condray's games. Once. I had a good time. I forget who I played. Obviously, I had no emotional investment in the faction I played. |

Carlist requetes because of their cool berets and old-fashioned thinking for the Nationalists and the Anarchists for the Republic for their hapless idealism. My first troops were Assaltos though because they were on both sides. |

Another vote for the army of africa. Great uniforms. |
Martin Rapier | 09 Dec 2011 9:29 a.m. PST |
I have a horrible feeling that the POUM are Marxists not anarchists. Anyway, favourite, the Durutti column, proper anarchists! I do also have a certain fondness for the bad boys of the Army of Africa. Viva la muerta and all that. |
Richard Baber | 09 Dec 2011 10:14 a.m. PST |
If I was going to create a new army it would be Poum militia or Durutti Column. I already own substantial units of Regulares and La Legion troops from my Rif War armies. |

I have a horrible feeling that the POUM are Marxists Yeees they are :-) It seems that everybody loves just the few first months of the war The POUM was banned in June 1937 and its leaders murdered by the Stalinists so people who want to play POUM have not much choice. |

BlackWidowPilot | 09 Dec 2011 7:58 p.m. PST |
1) Abraham Lincoln Brigade 2) Foreign Legion ("The Betrothed of Death") 3) Italian CTV 4) Anarchist Militias (any unit that had to take a vote about whether or not to actually follow an order from the higher command structure is a must-have in a wargames army
Bwahahahaaa!!!) Leland R. Erickson

Like once was said on these boards. There were no good guys on either side. Just shades of gray. Idealist, maybe but both side were pretty nasty. On that note I have built all the forces mentioned and enjoy gaming all of them. The uniforms, equipment is so art deco the romance is there as long as you dont read too deeply. |
AlanYork | 13 Dec 2011 6:13 p.m. PST |
Communist militia for me. I don't have any as my regular opponent John already has 'em. I have the next best thing though; Anarchist militia and they do OK on the table against John's various Nationalist companies, winning as many times as they lose. For when I have to play Nationalist I use the Falange, the best of a bad bunch IMO and at least they have the grace to lose every time and I do mean EVERY time!!!! |
Fatman | 19 Dec 2011 11:27 a.m. PST |

I'm surprised no one has mentioned the Condor Legion. |
Dropship Horizon | 04 Jan 2012 5:22 a.m. PST |
Unlike the Italian CTV, the Condor Legion had no real identifiable combat forces on the ground. They supplemented Nationalist forces with tank, anti-tank gun and artillery units but did not have a force of their own that could be turned into an identifiable tabletop 'army'. From an aerial perspective the answer is of course different. Cheers Mark |

It's a hard question to answer
.. I have a soft spot for P.O.U.M. due to Orwell. Asaltos because they were mean s. CTV and Garibaldis (XII International Brigade). 1936 Thaelmann Column because of Romilly, and Spanish Foreign Legion. Cheers Mark |
