The subject line says it all. Is the Matchbox HEMTT (and while I'm at it, the Buffalo) scale-appropriate for GZG, Khurasan and Rebel figures and vehicles?

They look awesome but with matchbox the scale can be up or down.

Failing that, the remarkably underpriced QRF version is 1:100 scale :-)

Just bought both a few weeks ago, The Buffalo, absolutely 15mm and fits perfectly with my modern US. The HEMTT however is a little large for 15mm, but should work well for Sci-Fi. I have several Boley HO scale HEMTT's I am using for my modern 15mm US that are a good fit, and the matchbox one is noticeably larger to be used side by side. You should check around for the Boley one's as they come in both a cargo and tank transporter version.

Boley's are perfect for sci-fi because they only have a passing similarity to the actual vehicle (rivets, anyone?).

The old Roco 10-ton Faun truck

is pretty good for sci-fi as most Americans haven't seen this 1960s vehicle.

Is that vehicle available Wyatt?

Wyatt,

Can see your point about the rivets, I used a Dremel to file them down on the three I have, did the trick, but for others that may be too much work. But again, as you say, for Sci-Fi they are perfect as is.

Those Matchbox HEMTTs look great but the ones on ebay have expensive postage to the UK.

Cold Warrior- interesting, my assessment was that the HEMTT was OK for 15mm but the Buffalo was too big! Note that this is just my gut feeling, I don't know how big these creatures are in the flesh. No pics, sorry.

Cold Warrior – I think that particular model and the similar cargo version are out of production, but they're relatively cheap and easy to find via e-bay. The truck is a Faun 912/21, but if you search Ebay for "Roco" and "Faun" you'll get about a dozen hits ranging from $9 to $17. auction

Check the real world vehicle dimensions. The buffalo is a beast :) They both work in 15mm IMHO.

OK, just took some comparison pics of the Matchbox toys and put them up on my blog. Check it:

That's quite helpful… I hope some are left after Xmas so I can cash in my promised Wal*mart gift card on them.

Wow, you're right. They are dead-on as far as I can tell.

Thanks so much Scorpio! Great pics.

I've just put up some HEMTT comparison shots- nice work Scorpio, didn't realise you had too. I may have to get a Buffalo as well, oh dear… :-)
