Below is the AAR from our ironclad game Saturday using Victory on the Rivers (VotR)ironclad rules

CAPT Dan (CS Navy) did a great job commanding the CSS Virginia. Along with the rebel shore batteries Dan attacked the Union navy (4 wooden war ships and the USS Monito) blockading Hampton Roads. The Union also had artillery from FT Monroe and two other shore batteries in the battle for "Hampton Roads".

CAPT Dan "doubled timed" his ship straight for the USS Minnesota and struck with his bow ram! Lucky for the Minnesota not much damage was caused (bad roll on damage dice) but the two ships did become locked which allowed the
Union ships to recover the shock of the ironclad and counterattacking. They circle her and fire thier deadly volleys into the metal sided ship.

After 4 turns the Minnesota was able to break free from rebel ram and sail (ran) for safety. CAPT Dan now turned the Virginina's guns on the rest of the Yankee fleet.

The fight went about 10 more turns until a great cannonade from "SGT" Joe and his Union shore batteries fired and caused a critical hit and blew out the CSS Virginia boilers! Thus putting the CSS Virginia dead in the water.

Before Dan struck her colors she sunk one Yankee ship and crippled another to within 1 damage point of sinking.

In the end the CSS Virginia gave the Union 69 damage points compared to the 53 (out of 58)damage ponts the iron monster took.

CAPT Dan has been by the Confederate War Department for his bravery and seamen-ship!

Great scenario…considering I thought it up on the 30min drive to set up at the battle barn!

Ron
CAPT of the USS Minnesota

I am not sure the Confederate Naval Department would be as thrilled with the outcome as Capt. Ron appears to think they would be.

Maybe he should go back to driving the Saratoga.
