I'm hunting out some 15mm vehicles for another Hammer's Slammers: The Crucible force. Has anyone got a photographic size comparison between this Brigade vehicle (The Apollo MBT) link And an Old Crow Slammers Blower
I've looked in the 'usual place' link but can't find a shot John T hammers-slammers.com |
clkeagle | 01 Dec 2011 5:14 a.m. PST |
I was so close this time. :) No Apollo in my collection though. Best I could do is a comparison of a Blower with the Eurofed Montsabert or South African Rhino MBTs. I wonder if the Apollo and Montsabert are the same general size? -Chris K. |
John Treadaway | 01 Dec 2011 7:29 a.m. PST |
Thanks Chris I'm looking for something like the Apollo in general shape (the Reblican tanks* are fusion powered blowers with strip mines along the side, a laser in a central turret, slabby** (unlike the Slammers more rounded forms) but have a secondary restricted arc front weapon with an autocanon. They need a large blower APC to go with them (though not as heavily armoured and with a similar auto canon). Not having too much luck on the proxy front at the moment! I have a few Apollo tanks but no working camera at the moment, dont Brigade models list the width and length of their vehicles at the bottom of each entry of their omline shop. |
John Treadaway | 01 Dec 2011 7:58 a.m. PST |
Avamango – Sadly, not with the Apollo. The American Republic M84 yes ("Length : 64mm Width : 33mm") but not the Apollo :( John T |
comstarhpg | 01 Dec 2011 10:16 a.m. PST |
Here you go John:) I'm afraid the Apollo has a Sheridan turret but hull is unmodified and American Republic M84 is untouched.
One centimeter cutting mat BTW Cheers Matt |

Nice job with the Sheridan turret. Looks nicer than the normal one. |

Thanks Matt – exactly the info I was looking for. The Sheridan turret does look excellent, btw :) I think I am going to have to go another route: The Apollo isn't really big enough for what I had in mind :( John T |
comstarhpg | 01 Dec 2011 3:08 p.m. PST |
I agree they are a bit small (like all of brigades) but they do look good on the table :) Cheers Matt |
AVAMANGO | 01 Dec 2011 10:06 p.m. PST |
Hold up gents i belive earlier in the year Brigade models announced they were going to increase the size of all the vehicles in their 15mm range so that they would be more compatable with other vehicles from different companies, im not sure if they have started to do this yet but it would not hurt to drop them an email to find out. I remember it was posted hear on the TMP when a member stated that the Brigade models vehicle range was really nice but way to small and they responded that they were going to increase all of their vehicle size by about 15%. |
clkeagle | 02 Dec 2011 4:39 a.m. PST |
They aren't all undersized. The South African Rhino MBT is perfect as-is. The Eurofed Tassigny APC would have no problems carrying a 10-man squad (it's M113-sized). The Eurofed MBT (and British Apollo from the looks of it) have no problems passing as lighter/infantry support tanks with 15mm infantry (but I'm not sure I'd call them MBTs). The worst offender appears to be the South African APC – it doesn't look like it could carry (or be crewed by) anything bigger than Sons Of Thunder. The Eurofed dune buggies look very undersized on the TMP review, assuming that's a normal infantry figure. TMP link I've also heard the German vehicles are too small, but haven't seen a good size comparison. -Chris K. |
Hayden | 02 Dec 2011 6:10 a.m. PST |
also size of European Fed Garibaldi? in some comparsion with other vehicles? thanks Jan |
John Treadaway | 02 Dec 2011 12:21 p.m. PST |
I think the vehicle looks fine, size wise, as is: the Apollo probably represents a 70 or 80 tonne modern battle tank with a hover skirt. The Sheridan turret (assuming the 551 donor vehice was 15mm, Matt) makes it look a tad small but not bad at all. I'm just after something Slammer's Blower size or slightly smaller. I may well go for this after all, but with a different turret:
I like the turret but the missile blocks aren't what I need. Then I'll have to find some way of adding the front auto cannon – perhaps a mini turret or something similar. John T |
AVAMANGO | 02 Dec 2011 3:31 p.m. PST |
The 3x Brigade Apollo tanks i have i intend to use them as Medium scout or Recce hover tanks much like the modern day Scorpion or Scimitar as i think they are a tad on the small side. |

Great minds think alike and all of that
I am currently in the midst of some preplanning for a Republican force myself (though in 6mm; see more on that below). So far I have lined up some Brigade M-83 Curtiss Heavy Tanks for the Henschel monster:
link For choice I'd stick a Merkava I turret on it, but I don't have any for a size comparison. Either way I'll probably drop the barrel off forward of the bore-evacuator and add jury-rig something small onto the front for the bow-mount autocannon. For infantry support I have the Tassigny Support APC:
link The best part is that Rep forces are small; a pair of tanks and six APCs and you have the force! I know that you are after 15mm, but Tony Francis is usually quite amenable to suggestion for bulking up his catalogue (though it can sometimes be quite a wait--but the NeoSov Vombat and the Polish halftracks show that he will produce customer requests to a 'T'). The M-83 above is just a couple mm short of a Broglie/Baffin TD and the Tassigny is yet another couple mm short of the Curtis. The APC is already in 15mm (as shown), and 6mm as I will be using it. Drill a few gunports in each side and fluff them as side hatches and be done with it; it may not look like it can carry 18-20 troopers, but a BMP doesn't look like it can fit 6-9 dismounts either. Scale-wise, the Tassigny comes in at a length of ~7.52 meters, just a bit short of the 9 meters mentioned in the book. In other words, (pedantry aside) I think it's a decent, off-the-shelf fit. I am most interested to see what shade of taupe you choose. |

Yep Sheridan turret is 15mm from QRF I think! |

comstarhpg | 03 Dec 2011 3:31 p.m. PST |
@Hayden sorry I missed your question earlier I do have a European Fed Garibaldi and here are a series of pictures that covers that vehicle and a few of the other brigade vehicles I have in my collection, just for fun. @Chris K the little vehicle from thispicture TMP link is a fare size comparison to the Peter Pig AM90 not saying its right but its shorter but actually has a bigger footprint, go figure. Oh and the 1cm grid still applies:)
Oh and here is the DLD tank I mentioned in another thread earlier on the same company:)
And this one is for John not as nice as your 28mm version but Peter Pig slave girls do paint up well as flits. Each of the loose ones are duplicated in the cage and can be used as tokens for your scenario in Miniature Wargames.

Very helpful, thank you! The Brigade Garibaldi is bigger than I thought
need to put that one back on the list before their sale is done. Darn shame about the South African APC. It'll be great when that one gets its size increase
very cool design. -Chris K. |
comstarhpg | 04 Dec 2011 4:30 p.m. PST |
@ Chris They are small I agree but a 4 man section would just fit so see them more as armoured jeeps more than APC's. But Colin from Wulfweb link has made a Wildebeest I was fortunate to receive a hull its the one Between the Rhino Tank and Buffalo APC. This is a great model :) if you look further back on his blog it shows how he made it. All I have done is fit window frame round the front screen and added a Calliope Turret on top:) Cheers Mstt |

I ran it several times and all thoroughly enjoyed it:) The separate flits were used as the makers for when they bought the farm:) Cheers Matt |

I converted 15mm T 34s ( see here link ) but they are much smaller compared to Old Crow, you could convert HO scale stuff to get a more similar size to the Blowers. In 15mm QRF make contemporary SA gear, it's a "big" 15 mm |
comstarhpg | 06 Dec 2011 8:57 a.m. PST |
Oh they are nice coversions :)
Cheers Matt |
freecloud | 06 Dec 2011 2:41 p.m. PST |
Thanks – I am tempted to put rounded skirts on to bulk out the hovertank size. They are a bit small for the Old Crow turrets but the Brigade Games ones work well. |

Well, I won't say that I specifically asked for it (in any way shape or form), but Tony Francis of Brigade Models has a master for the M-83 Curtiss in 15mm. I didn't inquire about actual model size/measurements, but if it scales appropriately to its original 6mm counterpart, it should be goodly sized to a jager-blower:
If it doesn't work out for a Henschel Rep-tank, I always considered it a good stand-in for the M1-series panzers (based on the old/original GZG blower-tanks that, in-universe, predate the now omnipresent M2). Well, that's what I plan to use someday when I want to game the Battle for Melpomone Spaceport. They also have a good 6mm stand-in for the original combat-cars. Hrm

comstarhpg | 24 Dec 2011 1:47 p.m. PST |
Thanks for that info I've been hoping John at GZG would make his old 25mm blower in 15mm but that a very good stand in :) Cheers Matt |

Another option might be the Matchbox "Real Working Rigs" M1A1 Abrams Tank. I don't have any pictures, but I intend to enclose the treads (front, rear, sides and underneath) with plasticard to make it a Grav tank. The hull measures 87mm long, 38mm wide and 17-20mm tall. Height to top of commander's hatch (which opens) is 31 to 32mm Total Height to top of commander's MG is about 36mm. diecastmania has two video reviews on Youtube. YouTube link YouTube link |
