I'm looking for an armored war elephant that is nicely scaled to 15mm figures – realistic height and propertions. The sort of armor I'm looking for is like the one below –
Thanks, -Eli |

Oh is correct, they paint up nicely and their armor is a near match for your picture. Geesh! The bleep-o-matic nails OB's nom de guerre |

Some jolly jumbos there. I used to have the QRF ones before in a fit of madness I sold my Mughals. They are very easy to assemble. |

A related question. Has there ever been an elephant controlled by a mahout that was not outside of the howdah? In other words, did any empire ever figure out a way to protect the elephant's driver beyond armoring him? -Eli |

I have quite a few Mughal elephants, and the QRF one is not a very detailed sculpt. The Essex one is the closest in terms of armour, but I like the Museum one for the animation.
I don't think you can get one that is of realistic height and proportions though, since 15mm elephants are probably all sculpted to fit onto a 40mm x 40mm base. |

I don't think you can get one that is of realistic height and proportions though, since 15mm elephants are probably all sculpted to fit onto a 40mm x 40mm base Most of them are asian elephants, not the larger african elephant. "Large bull elephants weigh up to 5,400 kg (12,000 lb) and are 3.2 m (10 ft) high at the shoulder. Females weigh up to 4,160 kg (9,200 lb) and reach 2.54 m (8.3 ft) at the shoulder." So you are only really looking at an elephant of about 30mm to the sholder anyway. I don't think the current 15mm offerings are far off that. I will try and get the elephants assembled and photographed, as that improves the look. They do paint up pretty:
That Alain Touller one is wonderfuly painted. |

I may source them from various manufacturers for variety. This project will end up working over some the cast details anyhow as I am converting them for a non-historical project. -Eli |
