need to make the setting better or more functional for you and your group? ***** Be they little changes or big ones. Things like how jedi become jedi
they are knights, monks, and priests in some fashion or another
perhaps it should be a learned and earned position rather than a genetic marker or magic juju value? With years of training, which is a good reason to start early
with a measure of balance between education, training, and talent one could attain knighthood. The force requires training or it will burn through you
the dark side is easier but wastes the body away, but like any addict the dark ones don't know it or care beyond the use
with measured effort and application the force can be redirected rather than pushed. The lightsaber
could be a weapon that anyone could use or perhaps it may require the use of the force just to activate it? Perhaps there are only a handful of aliens rather than a relative infinite variety? Maybe there are only a few paths that the ships can follow
much like currents on an ocean
or maybe there are great gates that travel takes place through? After these gates or paths, travel would or could be more conventional? How about the role of robots as player characters? An interesting aspect is the lack of the three laws regarding bots in the Star Wars universe
there are control devices that be installed but beyond that the range of personality run the gambit. Anyway, just some thoughts. So for you, leave it as is or use as a great buffet and take what you like the most
leaving the rest off your plate? |

I played Star Wars Saga Edition, it had a bit of everything. I used what I needed, and knew the rest was there if I needed it. |

Maybe keep George Lucas the heck away from it
? Nah, seriously, I like the sheer variety of the SW universe. There just need to be some coherent rules around the Force and Force-like powers, "super" creatures (read: Rancor, Sarlacc, etc.), space flight, and so forth. |

Turn the Death Star on the planet Endor, and have a test firing to rid the universe of the scourge of Ewoks. |

I agree completely with richarDISNEY. I haven't played or GM'd a role-playing game in well over a decade, but if I ever played SW again it would be the WEG edition. In addition to the great cinematic rules, I like how the game was originally set between the first & second movies. I'm contemplating running a solo-player (me) GM-less Star Wars RPG using the Mythic GM Emulator. If I do, I will use the West End Games rules for game mechanics and treat only the original three movies as "canon", ignoring the back-story provided by the newer prequels. |

When I start thinking about changes I end up tossing out anything that leaves it recognizable as Star Wars and get weird pulp space fantasy
which is what I'd prefer. |

Venusboys3 hits it on the head. My ideal Sci-Fi universe always ends up as a mish-mash of Star Wars, Warhammer40k, Dune, Cyberpunk, Fading Suns, ShatterZone, Fifth Element, Star Gate, Space Master, Mad Max, Kryomek, and RIFTS, amongst others
. in the end it resembles other settings much more than Star Wars, despite the inevitable Star Wars influences. When is a setting the sum of its modifications? I grew up with Star Wars, but I am really and truly sick of it now, especially since the 'expanded universe/prequel/cartoon' has sucked out all of the charm and atmosphere of the original movies. Star Wars is dead. |

Interestingly, I have been drawn to the Star Wars board on TMP out of morbid curiosity
. there seems to be a certain level of apathy and malcontent here. I love it. I AM NOT saying that people cannot or should not like Star Wars, this is a personal choice, not a moral issue. However, I will argue that any artistic value which the 'official' Star Wars universe had has long been compromised. |
