Varnish before basing

I'm sorry, I totally disagree. Varnish protects the basing, flocking and static grasses of your bases, just as it protects the paint of you figures.

Choose whether to have a large army of fairly well-painted figures or a smaller army of exceptionally well painted figures.

That speaks to time, frustration, and sanity.
