OK, I am new to this scale, so bear with me.

There are others out there with far more experience, who do far better jobs, but here is my take on how I roll with basing at this scale.

Fair bit of prep work to get setup for this, but once the prep is done, you can create lots of decent looking models for little extra effort.

Enjoy !

Looks very nice! I'm doing something similar. Mine won't be as quite as nice as yours. But it's a lot quicker to do. I use fine brown ballast mixed with a little dark brown and gray ballast. then glue the foliage. Considering I'm doing a few 100 bases speed was a requirement for me.

Thanks,

John

Nice work.

I have found this works well for 2mm and 3mm basing>

No worries, I saw it when I was at a trade show next to his stand.
Looks good and dead simple to use too.

I have worse eyesight than a blind bat with a hangover, and cant see for peanuts either .. so I cheat, sort of.

Was cleaning out a warehouse area earlier in the year, and tossing some old stock from a chemist business that was merged with another franchise. All the off-branded material was headed to the dumpster.

In amongst the rubbish were a few boxes of fashion glasses, including reading glasses. We put some of them on as a sort of joke .. and couldnt see a thing. haha.

Gave me an idea, so I grabbed a pair and looked at some coins up close. It was a revelation …. I felt like one of the crew members from that terrible 1966 film Fantastic Voyage.

Shuffled around through the rest of the box, and scored myself a nice fashionable pair of +3.0 mag 'reading' glasses. Saved from the dumpster !

Try some out one day – its quite disorientating at first, but wonderful for painting once you get used to them. It makes painting 15mm figures feel like you are handling 28's.

… and it makes 3mm feel like painting (dare I say it) 6mm.

The best I could manage with a naked eye would be to splodge the whole base with khaki and hope for the best.

Which reminds me ….. I have access to a large powered microscope that I use for electronic repairs and checking soldering joints, its good for 50x true optical zoom. Might be interesting to try painting using that one day.

I am determined to get helmet decals and correct collar tabs on these damn figures, even if it kills me ! Just one figure correctly painted like that, and Ill be happy for life.

@STeve64 – I got a pair of those 3+ glasses and you're right; wearing them the first time is like being p###ed as a newt but bring the figure closer and the magnification is fantastic. Cost me under 10 bucks.

Almost like when I got my first Bifocals LOL. Robert
