Some news from Defiance Games: defiancegames.com

We are getting VERY close to our official launch now – and will have lots to start showing off over the next week as we gear up.

We will be launching full ranges of hard plastic 28mm (1/56 scale) miniatures and a FREE rules set written by Howard Whitehouse called Combat: Alien War. Our first release will be USMC Infantry followed by German Panzergrenadiers and Alien Bugs in early 2012. Future releases will include USMC Hardsuits, Female Marines, Heavy Weapons, Warrior Bugs, German Scouts, Vralk Warriors (our first non-bug aliens), and Chinese Imperial Infantry among others.

The USMC, Bugs, Germans, Vralk, and Chinese will be our first Forces for the game with more nations, aliens, AI, vehicles, etc. to follow.

We've just launched a poll to see which nations resonate with you the most – there's a LONG list in the poll on the homepage here: defiancegames.com – there are deliberately no descriptions behind name of any of these nations – we're just interested in which ones resonate with you most at a basic level. Once we nail down the next big nation to release as a full Force, we'll include the community in the discussion to help define them better.

Please vote in the poll here: defiancegames.com

Below is a Marine corporal on patrol through a Vralk village on Aleutia with his trusty M-46 rifle with underslung grenade launcher at the ready!

A lot more to come in the next few days!

Thanks again,
Tony

They look stunning. I might get a box. But 28mm sci-fi is not my thnig. 15mm for me. But they do look very very nice.

Fifty422 Nov 2011 6:48 a.m. PST

Thanks so much! Re: 15mm the upcoming Bugs (which are about 22mm tall and the Vralk – about the same) could fill in to a 15mm setting – bugs are bugs and the Vralk are kindof like otters but not – so in 15mm might be a bit Wookie-ish. ;-) (with less fur) ;-)

That trooper looks great- different enough from other manufacturers, but should fit in with others of the genre.

PatrickWR22 Nov 2011 7:42 a.m. PST

Generic 28mm sci-fi…sounds great!

ordinarybass22 Nov 2011 7:54 a.m. PST

Looking good! Nice designs that are distinctive enough on their own but generic enough to appeal to a wide audience. Also, at this point it does look like a significant improvement over earlier efforts. If I didn't already have several human Sci-fi armies, I'd definitley be looking into these figs.

WarWizard22 Nov 2011 7:58 a.m. PST

I think these guys could even be used for "Dune".

LeadLair7622 Nov 2011 8:12 a.m. PST

Very cool. Glad you guys got back on your feet. I will be getting some of these for sure. Obviously sci-fi but still generic enough to fit in almost any setting.

Mutant Q22 Nov 2011 8:34 a.m. PST

While I too have made the leap to 15mm for most of my scifi ground combat games I still use 28mm for RPGs and small unit stuff. These would be awesome for "gritty" hard scifi (2300 AD comes to mind) or cyberpunk game.

I can't wait to see the final product!

I'm really looking forward to these! I have so much from so many others I can't believe I'm going to expand into this but if they're as nice in real life and the price is right, I will buy, buy, buy. grin

Valator22 Nov 2011 9:46 a.m. PST

What's a Vralk? Are y'all giving us skinny gray aliens toting bulky plasma weaponry?

GreatScot7222 Nov 2011 9:48 a.m. PST

Same as AYSSimH here; I certainly don't need them, but if they are reasonably priced, I will scarf 'em up. I am looking forward to the Power Armoured troops and am really hoping we see some kit that is akin to full-body non-PA armor as well (what was it called in Traveller? Combat Armor?):

…in a non-propriatarily challenging form, of course! grin

Like December soon? I planning on making a big Pig Iron order this weekend as part of the Black Friday sale. I'll be picking up PI Heavy Infantry for TW's USMC. If they're going to be out soon, I'd rather pick these up in plastic. And then buy Kolony Militia instead :-)

Fifty422 Nov 2011 10:14 a.m. PST

Hi Saxon Dog – the full body armor types are the German Panzergrenadiers:

These are coming along nicely too in tooling.

Sorry – forgot to add – 24 figures (including bases) for $29.95 USD.

Fifty422 Nov 2011 10:17 a.m. PST

Valator – Vralk are natives of the US colony world Aleutia. Vralks are semi-aquatic aliens who have achieved a Dark Ages equivalent level of technology.

As we release the first sets – we are going to be building a narrative around the conflict on Aleutia – which will allow us to place the USMC, Germans, Bugs, Indians of Sequoia, Vralk, and Chinese. After those Forces are released (with several sets each) we are moving onto another planet as a backdrop for new Forces.

looking forward to getting some of these….

"Vralk are kindof like otters"

Space Otters? Really? That…actually sounds cooler that I thought it did at first. Makes me think of the Hyperintelligent sea otters from that 2 parter of South Park from some years ago.

Fifty422 Nov 2011 1:37 p.m. PST

Not the furry, snuggly kind of otters either. We've had a lot of fun creating the world, background, physiology, psychology, history, etc. of the Vralk. I hope you like them!

Lee Brilleaux Fezian22 Nov 2011 1:56 p.m. PST

Not a Vralk at all. Vralk are NOT this cute.

Aw!!

The Sentient Bean22 Nov 2011 6:54 p.m. PST

Head swap on that figure (or a mod) and it's a Cobra Viper! Awesome.

Wait, wait, space otters? SPACE OTTERS?!

I've been wanting Khalian miniatures since I first read the David Drake stories in 'The Fleet' shared world series, years ago!

Okay, the Khalians were weasels, but really, otters are just big aquatic weasels. But still – weasels with guns that eat people!

I've got no idea what the Vralk will be like, but I'm looking forward to this.
