Whether its the photo or lighting they look like their wearing helmets
|
afilter | 22 Feb 2012 5:32 a.m. PST |
LVG, the helmet look is the result of poor lighting and the camera I have. I ordered some basic paints and tools which arrived yesterdayso I can do a little custom work to spruce up the troops while I am here as G&H suggest as an option on the web site. Spent about an hour last night and I am fairly please with the result: link Not award winning models by any means, but more than adequate for the gaming table. |
Lord Ashram | 23 Feb 2012 8:51 a.m. PST |
Here is someone else who "touched up" their figures
these actually came out quite nice. I think he just grassed and washed them
?

XV Brigada | 24 Feb 2012 5:09 p.m. PST |
The basic idea is not a bad one. But at £230.00 GBP in UK for a box containing approximately 300 indifferently painted infantry, 36 cavalry and six guns, or nearly £500.00 GBP for both sides I just don't see it doing anything on this side of the pond. |
Gunfreak | 24 Feb 2012 6:43 p.m. PST |
Why would you pay 500 punds when it costs half that |
Corwin | 25 Feb 2012 6:14 a.m. PST |
The Rebs 3 posts above were inked, lightly drybrushed and static grassed. The green uniformed sharpshooters are a quick repaint and drybrush of a bunch of scout stands plus 2 command stands. Thanks for the positive comments. Brian has the pics of the Union troops done in the same way. For the money I've spent – about £500.00 GBP all told buying blisters in the sale direct from Gordon and Hague I think having 380 stands of models that are good enough to go straight to tabletop and with a few hours effort to touch up to look pretty good to be an excellent price. Like many other old hands I have much less time to dedicate to gaming these days so pre-painted is good. I've seen many 'Pro-Painted' 15m armies from eBay that were a lot more expensive and looked utterly dreadful. |

Corwin, Very nice work! Here is my latest effort: link |
Stepman3 | 05 Apr 2012 4:52 p.m. PST |
will these be availible at Historicon? |
Bottom Dollar | 06 Apr 2012 1:32 p.m. PST |
A little touching up, and yes they look pretty good. The idea to be sold might be, partially pre-painted. Like wouldn't you pay extra for miniatures which have been primed and given base coats, etc.. and all you had to do was add the detail ? |

Perfect way to do Gettysburg. By the way, has the creator of these minis stated any intentions of doing any other periods (Napoleonics, Samurai, etc
)? |
infinite array | 08 Apr 2012 6:45 a.m. PST |
Yes – he's been asking on his Facebook page as to what people might want should he go into Napoleonics, and an update from this week says his American War of Independence sculpts are coming along nicely. |

Expanding is all well and good, but the online store is empty until sometime in May and has been for quite awhile now. The fine fellow needs to put some stock on his shelves. |

AWI 10mm is a very is a very interesting period for me and I think may get a lot of interest form all quarters. |

Hey Aaron (afilter) are you permanently in Kosovo? What's the gaming like down there? I can remember a classic game of Risk in Sarajevo one night with the EUFOR staff
The German invaded everyone in turn one and the Brits, Yanks and Irish ganged up on him
He he he. |
Uesugi Kenshin | 09 Apr 2012 9:06 p.m. PST |
"American War of Independence" Hmm, strikes me as a strange pick for mass-market plastics. I would think Nappies would sell WAY better. Maybe even Franco-Prussian War! |
Ramming | 11 Apr 2012 6:20 a.m. PST |
I remember buying – actually, having bought for me – a hard plastic Marx Mini Playset, Blue and Grey, about 45 years ago; the figures were beautifully painted and probably started me out on the hobby. Maybe this line will do well, maybe not, time will tell; if the UK price is correct then don't expect to sell any over here. |
Long Valley Gamer | 12 Apr 2012 3:11 p.m. PST |
Sorry to say this but their cavalry look like polo players

Yeah, we need some plastic 10s just like those- unpainted. Why dont you make them unpainted? You could sell a heck of a lot more. And if this company was able to get plastic 10s going then someone else will be able to and they prob will sell them unpainted, at a reasonable price. I just dont understand why people are buying these at this price point. Anyone could do that quality paint job in an afternoon on all of those figs. Heck, I can paint 1000 10mm Naps in day, better than that. I dont get it
Although apparently some people do, so good for you guys. |
TKindred | 05 May 2012 11:11 a.m. PST |
Some of us have limited time/money for these projects. I can't afford to spend the time painting two entire forces for 10mm, and I certainly am not going to pay a studio the prices they demand. These work VERY well, and if they need a little touch up here and there, then that's something I can work into the schedule. A wash, some flocking, no problem, and especially in 10mm, where you want a mass effect and not the sort of painting effort put into a larger scale. I'd love to have some painted 10mm AWI forces, ans this will fill the bill perfectly. It lets me spend my limited time and funds on my 28mm ancients AND collect these armies. In short, it's a no-brainer. |
VonBurge | 06 May 2012 9:00 a.m. PST |
I'm glad to see this effort providing painted plastics 10mm figs for those who want them. I think that's great! Drive on! But I'm waitng for the unpainted options in plastic in this scale. Seems like it might not be too hard for G&H to provide both options? |
Crumple | 06 May 2012 5:14 p.m. PST |
I can understand why people buy these, BUT like anything the fanatical defence falls short. From a UK point of view I could buy metal/pay for painting and basing / delivery ( of a much higher standard than is offered )and have a very varied troop type to boot! and still have lots of money left over.I could also have downloaded the free rules that now cost $21. USD HA I don't play this period but feel sorry for the chumps |
TKindred | 06 May 2012 8:33 p.m. PST |
You know, it's the same over here regarding Foundry and other UK products. I really love Foundry's minis, but there is just no way I can justify that cost to get them here in the US. So I troll ebay for the odd lots here and there, and use other minis like these because the price for me is a deal-breaker. |
afilter | 07 May 2012 10:51 a.m. PST |
GJTrev, to each his own, the rules are still free the $21 USD is just if you want a high quality printed bound version. This is not for everyone, but definately fills a niche for some who I would hardly call chumps just because they want to game and do so with minimal effort. |
Crumple | 07 May 2012 2:15 p.m. PST |
Yes fair enough, Chumps was too strong. I do think that there is an element of the emperors new clothes though. |
Royal Marine | 07 May 2012 3:07 p.m. PST |
So the Emperor has got new clothes and it looks like some plastic Redcoats are about to march alongside him. |
Old Contemptibles | 07 May 2012 4:06 p.m. PST |

CATterrain | 15 May 2012 10:53 p.m. PST |
Wow
a 5-page thread on TMP/ACW mostly filled with a bunch of "haters-gona-hate" simply 'cuase they did not come up with this 10mm pre-painted idea/product on their own. Best of luck to G&H
and good gaming to us all. |
RogerThat | 02 Jan 2013 9:17 a.m. PST |
It appears from the products available at their web site that Gordon & Hague is out of the pre-painted 10mm ACW business and now offering plastic unpainted 15mm ACW (and a couple of boardgames for pre-order). Missed that opportunity

Charlie 12 | 02 Jan 2013 1:27 p.m. PST |
Looking at the lack of updates and other things on their site, I'm wondering if they're even still in business. |
Flak Bait | 03 Jan 2013 7:32 a.m. PST |
I also was recently on the website and saw nothing in reference to the 10mm ACW. I had gotten a couple of the starter boxes last year. |
Caesar | 03 Jan 2013 8:13 a.m. PST |
He posted on Facebook just yesterday, so he's still around. |
Valator | 03 Jan 2013 2:53 p.m. PST |
No 10mm ACW available, None of the AWI to be seen either. But now there is 15mm ACW available for purchase. These guys are like my cousin. He started selling grapes to small wineries and was doing great, so he cut down the grapes and planted corn to sell to the organic foodie people who loved him, which he decided to stop doing in order to raise christmas trees, but sold the farm before his first crop was ready and moved to suburbia to become a day trader and then noticed that he wasn't doing too badly at that so he quit to become a brewer and bartender, which started to pan out, so he closed the place and now works on a garbage truck. The owner of the waste management company wants to make him a partner, so I expect him to show up at my door with a binder full of notes about a new "faux-marble resin flooring" idea he was mumbling about on Christmas. I liked the 10mm ACW minis. I wanted to buy more of them. I also wanted the AWI. I thought these guys would be the next Flames of War with the way they were staking out and boldly claiming a position in the market. Oh well. At least they aren't showing up at my doorstep to unveil their new idea: Falklands prepainted naval battles. |
Charlie 12 | 03 Jan 2013 4:23 p.m. PST |
Yeah, it looked like the 10mm prepaints were going to be their own niche market that they could run with. Now, with the 15mm unpainteds, they're just another 15mm figure company among many. Unless their figures are dramatically better (price and/or quality) than everyones elses, I don't see how they're going to set themselves apart from the rest. |
Charlie 12 | 03 Jan 2013 4:28 p.m. PST |
So he's posted on Facebook
His website is supposedly the front door to his virtual store. And that's not being kept up. Either you're in business to do business or you're not. And, based on his website, he's not
|
Caesar | 05 Jan 2013 12:14 p.m. PST |
Welcome to 2013, where companies use Facebook as a means to communicate with the public. Next you'll be complaining that you sent a SASE and didn't get a mimeographed copy of his latest product list back. |
Charlie 12 | 05 Jan 2013 2:52 p.m. PST |
So you COMMUNICATE with Facebook. Whoopee
Your WEBSITE is where you SELL your product. And his website doesn't cut it. Oh, and BTW, a lot companies are dumping Zucherberg's overhyped site because its not generating sales. Yes, its 2013, but retail is still retail
