I have just seen the FAQ that explains you do NOT need to be a member to advertise – just to SELL items. So, my grunts of outrage were misplaced and I wholeheartedly apologise to the OP and the others on here that I offended. They are still in the wrong scale though

LightRail: I'm one of those old curmudgeons that needs to see a thing with my own eyes, to pick it up, and on rare occasions, to taste it before I buy. What are the chances that you're game will make an appearance at Origins or some other gaming conventions? |

I don't know if he really wants you standing over his demo table putting his models in your mouth

The bases I ordered just to check them out arrived today. In general I would be happy to place them on the table as is. The paint job is basic but no worse then I would do. In terms of Black Powder rules, I figure you get 7 infantry units, 3 Cav, and two artillery units for each side, all for $265. |

Absolutely! @ Lord Ashram – Thanks for giving us the heads up. The general benefit to the wargaming hobby from you sharing this info far outweighs any of the petty negative issues raised here. I hope this is just the leading edge of a new wave in wargaming. I've seen others here mention Zulus, I'd like to see WSS which could be pulled off very well to I think! |

I have just been pointed in this direction via a Facebook message about the allegations posted on page 3 I think, of Old Glory trying to put me out of business or trying to buy me out. I will clarify and defend Russ in so doing. Russ approached me and offered to make molds for my Seminole Indians which were about to be released (this is several years ago)and offered to be my contract mold maker for the rest of the range. He also was about to make his own Seminoles, or about to release them. Russ stated that if I let him be my mold maker, he wouldn't release his own Seminoles as that would conflict with my sales, thereby affecting his profit. He then stated that if I didn't let him make my molds, that he would release his own Seminoles. I don't remember who, and don't know their TMP names either, but I do remember asking a few people their opinions. (people in the Industry who might have known Russ) The General consensus was not to go into business with him. So I stayed on that decision. I've heard nothing of it since then, other than the occasional message from A Alvin Twinnigham asking if I had changed my mind or now might be interested in using Russ' services. At that same weekend that Russ approached me, I was approached claiming that he overheard Russ say that he wanted to put me and a few other companies out of business. If this was true, I cannot say, though I've said myself that I intend to dethrone the Perry's, so I guess we all make rabid claims sometimes. So in all, other than feeling slighted by Old Glory at one time, I've had no negative contact with Russ or anyone else from Old Glory, and I actually hang out with most of his staff at Historicon on a regular basis. I say hello to Russ at every show and stop by their booth to see what's new. I apologize if things have gotten out of hand, and didn't realize that this 'feud' or any other claims were still going. It's safe to say that Old Glory doesn't need my business and Conquest is doing fine regardless. We are both grown men, and we make toy soldiers and make 'pow, pow' noises when we roll dice. I don't know what any of this has to do with the news article this thread belongs to, and I see where it got derailed, and actually agree with Russ as far as the negative posts here about this company or that. Save it for private conversations over a drink and face to face. Maybe I've not always done that in the past, but it certainly doesn't warrant coming here to attack someone. Back to my new release

I just bought a few blister packs to see if I liked the figures. Paint job is fair to poor, but if 10 mm = 6 ft then looking at a figures at adistace of 3 Ft is looking at figures from over 600 ft scale distance. At that ditance can a normal person see any thing? |

I read the rules and on first take I thought these were the simpler ACW rules I have been looking for. But at second take they appear way too simple for me. The are several issues I have, it does not account for different types of small arms and artillery in enough detail. These rules do not account in enough detail unit morale levels. It is very generic. It reminds me of the old Milton-Bradly pseudo-wargames. These rules include the idiotic +1 "Rebel Yell" rule. This is a totally unacceptable rule for me and is a deal killer. If I played these rules I would totally ignore it. Which will lead to endless arguments from any Rebelphile. I now find it hard to accept these rules seriously. One more thing is that I did not find a set of charts and tables in the PDF. On the plus side you certainly can add or subtract additional detail to it. In the authors defense it does state that you may add scenario specific rules. Which makes it a typical British set of rules. If I just completely missed something please correct me. It is late and I have had some Christmas "Cheer." |
TKindred | 26 Dec 2011 12:16 p.m. PST |
Well, I haven't read the rules, but as far as I am concerned, there are only two types of weapons that matter: Small arms and artillery. In the field, both of those may be broken down as either smoothbore or rifled. Beyond that, does it really mater? It didn't matter all that much to those who were leading units into battle. Considering the actual battlefields and the ranges engaged, having more detail(s) than that doesn't really seem to be a requirement. |

'Which makes it a typical British set of rules' That's not mean't to be as snarky as it sounds now, is it? John |
Lord Ashram | 26 Dec 2011 8:20 p.m. PST |
Especially since it was written by a Yank?:) Eh, there are rules for people who love lots of detail, and there are rules for those who do not, and there are lots of in-betweens. Given the chance of non-wargamers picking up the miniatures product, you've got to understand why the creator would write a set of rules that errs on the side of simplicity rather than complexity. Give that they are also free, professionally presented, and they also work on a company level and make sure the miniatures generally move like the men, that's a good enough deal. And picking on the idea of a "Rebel Yell" rule is a bit silly
it is a game, and most games have special rules meant to enhance the player experience while somehow mirroring life
should HARDLY be a deal breaker. Plus, there is this, courtesy of his proceeds

Good idea. I like idea of having a miniatures game in a box. This could be a bridge between board and war gamers. >Surely the whole point the hobby is sitting alone at a desk, enjoying the white-spirit fumes >as you stare at rows of un-painted / semi-painted figures and secretly knowing >they'll never see action. I resemble that remark! |
Lord Ashram | 01 Jan 2012 7:48 a.m. PST |
I am "friends" with the Facebook page and apparently they are completely sold out of the grand army boxes. I know that the blisters are the "old" paint job
but iirc they still look, minus the color, the same. |

Thought some here may find these of interest as a possiblity to get into ACW fairly quickly and with less expense: The troop shipment arrived today from Gordon and Hague. So far I've only opened the Union troops. I'm happy with my purchase. So far, I've only discovered two figures separated from the stands during shipping. I'm curious about the ACW flag sheet for $3.50 USD, meaning the value of it. I'll wait til I attempt to raise them to make final judgement. I can see adding a couple touches of drybrush, flocking, and magnets to the bottom. This is a great chance to get into a new period while still keeping time freed up to paint my main focus, WWII. I will buy more and look forward to the Gordon and Hague future releases. Which makes it a typical British set of rules. If I just completely missed something please correct me. It is late and I have had some Christmas "Cheer." ----------------- why one should never drink and then post on the net! Ref the overall concept -interesting and o/s of Modern and WW2 (and of course Sci-fi and Fantasy) not something that I am aware has been tried. TMP does sometimes illustrate the downside of the internet in that people who face to face might disagree but get on (I game with a number of people whose views on many things I strongly disagree with – we all agree though that we enjoy wargaming) end up being quite nasty from behind the anonymity of the keyboard – then again some people are probably just as annoying in real life – at least TMP avoids the "I'm dead hard here f'ing and blinding like a Souf London geezer but teach in my local technical college Mon-Fri 9-5" that one finds on Frothers etc – still if it makes them feel happy!

I still think it is a great product also. regards Russ Dunaway ------------------ LOL – yes those are the folks that want to challenge you to a fight if you argue with them on the net – needful, of course, of the old police domestic dispute tactic (where there may be no power to make an arrest on private property) "can you step outside if you don't mind so I can have a word, sir" – then as soon as his foot touches "public" space, he's kwikcuffed and in the back of a carrier on the way to custody before someone can say The Ways and Means Act 1900! |

A fight on TMP!? Never thought that would happen. So how did it start? "My figures are bigger than you figures, outside now". BTW, WRT to some earlier posts I have downloaded the FREE rules and they look just fine and would give a very playable game for an evening – "Rebel Yell +1" or not. How could that ever kill a deal that was free in the first place? Looking forward to the Zulus and the rules

Received mine and couple of mates order today and I am extremely satisfied with these miniatures. There are definitely no painting prizes forthcoming but the ability to put an army straight on the table makes these a must for any gamer considering 10mm. Particularly if you don't have the time it would take to get unpainted miniatures to this level. I hope to play a display game at Cancon (gaming convention in Canberra Australia 27 to 29 January) against one of mates. Probably happen on the Saturday. Paul |
Dave Crowell | 17 Jan 2012 5:17 a.m. PST |
If these were Sudan rather than ACW my 15mm might already be on eBay. Likewise for AWI. The only thing keeping me from ordering a set is that I really don't want to start gaming in ACW as well. I do enough periods and scales as it is. The price seems reasonable for ready to field units, especially factoring the time to prep and paint and base all those figures. The number one impediment to my gaming these days is lack of time for painting, etc. I just priced out a Lasalle Russian army, core plus one support and just the figures came to about $200 USD, add bases, prep and painting time, and $250 USD for preprinted 10mm plastics looks very nice indeed. |

Hi AFAIK no one in Oz has picked up this line. Me and 2 mates stumbled across them on Tabletop Gaming News and decided to check them out. Between us we have around 150 stands at the moment but as I type we have put in our second order (unfortunately not likely to be here by Cancon). My plan is to stage a demo game in the participation area of the miniatures hall from Saturday lunch time. If anyone wandering by wants to move a batallion or 2 they will be welcome. The plan is to simulate Kernstown with what we have. Unfortunately this will be the only opportunity I have as I am involved with Wings of War on Friday games and helping out the Flames of War comp on the Sunday. This is the only time a table will be available as well. We will be playing the Severed Union rules which we used for our first game with the toys today. While there is a bit of a Battlefront/Warhammer feel to the rules they flowed well and we had great fun blundering our way through them. We should be more accomplished at Cancon. Despite some comments I believe these miniatures to be a wonderful way to start and continue ACW gaming. Hope to see you there. Paul |

As I stated in a previous section that after looking at the figures with their lack of detail, few poses and rudimentary paint really doesn't rock my boat. However I also understand there are many gamers that are perfectly happy playing with felt as woods, clumps as hills and terribly painted figures. It's the gaming that most important to them which there is no right or wrong. My focus besides a fun and well balanced game is the visual impact that wargaming can bring. Painting my own figures and gaming them also turned me into an amateur historian forcing me to research uniforms, tactics and battles. After gaming for 30 years I've built up a respectable knowledge in many periods. Finally, for my purposes this might be a good gift to give to my grandson in order to introduce him to gaming

WOW, JUST WOW! Glad I stumbled on to this thread. I am definately going to give these a try when I return from deployment. Just returned to ACW gaming last spring and decided to go with 10mm. The one thing I am lacking is CAV, so this mght be a great opportunity to add to my army as time for modeling is very limited and I would rather spend playing as I have two teenage sons I am trying to get interested and will only have their attention so long. I am sure with a touch of paint here and there I can make them unique to fit into my armies. Thanks for sharing! |

Lord Ashram | 31 Jan 2012 11:59 a.m. PST |
Afilter, if you already have 10mm ACW figures, I'd buy a few blisters first to make sure they match up okay. I have only 10mm Nappies, but I know the two would not have matched up well. They do sell blisters, so that is easy enough. Or just get two forces straight from them! BTW, anyone check out the G&H Facebook page? New stuff on the way:) |

@Royal Marine, Looks like fun unfortunately I will not be in that part of the world or home by then. @Lard Ashram, that is exactly the plan. I am not a stickler on scale as long as they are close. Basing will be more of an issue as I set my figs up for Regimental Fire and Fury and only went with 4 figs oer stand on a 1" fron to conserve troops and make more units. Reading through the thread it appears rebasing is not to hard? Does nayone know the size of the bases they come on? I downlaoded the rules. At first glance they look promising. I may just order up a couple forces and give it a try with some of the guys here and worry about blending them with my existing units when I get home. |

Thanks! I downloaded the rules and could not resist placing a order at the reduced prices. So far the rules look very professionally done. Not the level of detail of say RF&F, but look like an excellent set to get new and especially young players into ACW gaming. Assuming the figs look as good in person as the pics it might be a great way to plus up my existing armies back home especially for Cav which I hate painting anyway. Look forward to the figures arriving and giving it a test play as well as doing a review. |

Yes, I saw the announcement about AWI on the facebook page very exciting for someone who has wanted to do AWI, but lacks the time to paint. Not sure how they will compare to other Minis. I did order a bunch of the dicounted blister packs and look forward to receiving them to evaluate myself. I have had several communications with the owner and designer sharing some ideas. Very nice and seems to be a true hobbyist doing this for all the right reasons. I hope it goes well as I cansee a ton of possibilities for pre-painted figures in today's market. I added an article on my blog and will put up a review when they arrive. link |
